Default semi-auto sidearm while hunting?

I'm assuming that you aren't allowed to have a semi-auto sidearm on your person while hunting in Pa?

This was changed last year.
You CAN have a semi handgun (for self defense) while hunting ONLY if you have a PA LTCF.

If caught you'd have to convince the game warden it's not for hunting purposes, including finishing off a wounded animal. Tough to do if you're hunting. Sounds like you better run out and buy a nice wheel gun so you have no worries!

No. Since the regs are very clear in that it IS allowed, they would have to catch you using it in that regard.

So you specifically have to have a LTCF even if it's open carried?

Yes. Game regs prohibit the carrying of firearms not legal to harvest game in season with while hunting. One exception is a semi-auto handgun while hunting or spotlighting for LTCF holders only.

Is it legal during any hunting season? Looking in the book you get with your hunting license it only says spotlighting and while bowhunting.
