A lot of dog town areas have been closed in recent years. From what I understand to be overhunting and disease.
Five of us went out West couple of years back. Spent 4 days at various dog towns. The 5 of us shot up almost 4000 rounds of ammo. Lost count of the body count. We needed at least two rifles apiece. When one got hot, switch to another one and let the first cool down.
Much fun was had by all. Didn't cost too much money. We drove out and stayed with a friend of one of the other shooters. I would love to do it again.

Some guys over at Graybeardoutdoors.com holds a P-dog shoot each year for NEF/H&R shooters usually in or around Hooker, OK. Theres been a couple guys from OH and PA offer to taxi a guy or two with them if they split the gas during prior shoots.

that sounds like a good idea, maybe we could get a group to go from the fourm here. I would use my stevens340 in 22hornet and ruger No.3 223rem. My dad would use his .204 ruger (witch is one fun and amazing round !!!). and bring lots of ammo!

Find out what state you want to go to and what area, then contact that local chamber of commerce. Many of them will have a list of ranchers that allow hunting. Last time I went I got a list of 40 ranchers in wyoming. I called them and most charge 100/day, but some did not charge anything. You dont need a license in Wy. to hunt them either. You will find that you will call a rancher and he will give you names and numbers of other ranchers as well.

Be prepared, once you go prarie dog hunting you will be hooked, and groundhog hunting will never be the same. And take at least 3 guns with 1000 rounds each, and more rounds for the one you will shoot the most.
