No buck this year in PA.

Took a two week vacation and off for the season---hunted every day, all day, except for Wednesday and Friday of the second week. Seen several buck each day I was in the woods but nothing legal to shoot. I passed on doe until the last Saturday.

I filled both my doe tags on Saturday the 9th by noon.

All my deer hunting this year was done with my S&W .41 Mag Hunter and both doe went down with one shot at ranges of 45 to 60 yards.

Hey Grizz,

I find it interesting that you didn't see any legal bucks. Are you in an area that requires four points to a side out there? I hunted all but one weekend of archery and most of buck season and the only bucks I saw were forkhorned four pointers. One of them walked right under my stand on the second weekend of archery.

Another question; do you have a scope on that .41 mag or are you shooting with open sights?

No buck for me this year.

I went out the last Sat to Avella and saw exactly NO deer. Took the Pump .06 and my 7 1/2" .44 Redhawk.
I post a lot (and somtimes sleep a little ) and while I'm sitting, I have the .44 next to me for weak side shots. Actually on Sat , I took my pumpgun for a walk and my Redhawk for a nap.

I took two doe as I posted earlier. One with the .06 and one with my Ithaca slug gun so the season was not a bust.

I doubt I'll go out for extended archery.

later,

The areas I was hunting where the (PA count) 8 point or 4 on one side.
Seen a lot of 6 points--3 on one side.

Took a doe with my muzzleloader on opening day of centerfire (gotta love the stupid special regulation areas). About 35 yards, open sights. Double lung, great veins hit, pass through. She made it about 60 yards or so and was DRT.

Very, very tasty -- barely mature doe. Venison veal

I'll probably bust out the crossbow for late muzzleloader season just for fun. I haven't used by buck tag, so I'll probably take another doe with it.

Bagged a doe on the 3rd day. Easiest shot I've ever taken at about 7 yards. Head shot dropped it instantly.
Just didn't see many deer this year, in fact it was the first time in 5 years I didn't have a deer by noon on the first day. Typically would see between 15-20 deer on opening day (rifle); this year I saw 4 doe. Didn't see a buck all week.

Went out for (late) muzzleloader yesterday and today. Didn't see a deer.

If you haven't filled your buck tag, then during Flintlock season (that we're in now) you can take an doe on your buck tag.
