klpolk3,

Tell your daughter congrats on a nice buck. It's nice to see young ladies getting involved in hunting. Success keeps the interest going.

I shot my second doe at noon today with my 12 Ga.
It was running with a 6 point buck which I couldn't shoot due to the regs in this area requiring 4 points on one side.

I may not get out again till the last Sat.

Good luck to the rest of you who still have tags to fill.

I'll be into some butterfly chops in a couple hours (think I'll try making them on the grill)

I picked up a radio at my hunting buddies from our hunt last week.
A couple hunters kicked up an 8 point across the street from his house with what he said looked to be 16/18 inch spread rack. If it was legal, I'd be on his roof .

Thanks for all the nice comments. Makes me a pretty proud mama! The cool thing is, she butchered it too, with a little help from her father.

Congrats klpolk!

My first year out with my daughter too, she's 12 and so far zilch..she has been a trooper about it and hasn't complained a bit, she is a pretty tough nut.

Going to pick her up from school early this week and get her out for a couple of afternoons and next Saturday also I hope.

I want her to bag one so bad...SHE asked ME to take her, she has been a great sport going shooting and getting prepared and now stomping around in the woods and not one complaint out of her.

Hopefully have an update later this week.

I've hunted real hard so far this year. I still haven't filled a tag yet.

I hunted almost every weekend of archery season on our place in Bradford county. I took no shots with the bow, but I completely missed two does with the flintlock in early muzzle loader season.

I didn't start hunting last week until Wednesday and I was in the stand every day through Saturday. Nothing was moving up there. It was too warm.

One thing that concerns me is there were three deer taken in my camp last week and when they were dressed out, their stomachs were all full of corn. There isn't a cornfield for 20 miles up there. Someone's baiting.

I'll be heading back up this weekend and I'll be in camp for the whole week after Christmas for the late muzzle loader season.

I shot a nice fat doe with my slug gun on 12-02-06 laser rangefinder said it was a 125yd. shot. I have my scope set up so that I am dead on at 100yds and a tad low at 125 so I was not worried about the distance, and I had a rock solid rest. I thank the big guy upstairs for deer #3 this season. Good luck to all in the late season. We can hunt all the way to the end of January down here in 5C and 5D WMU's

She sounds exactly like my daughter! She shot her first squirrel at the age of 12. It was so memorable because the squirrel was right outside my mother's cabin, and it was very early in the morning. When she came back in the cabin and took her hunting jacket and pants off, she was still wearing her silkie blue jammie pants. Only a little girl could do that! LOL! Her uncles still kid her about that today, and she's 19, now!
Good Luck to you and your daughter! Let us know how she does.

Tell your daughter congrats on the buck for me!

I went out Saturday and got nothing but frozen hands (at least the rest of me was warm enough, but those gloves were worthless) didn't even SEE anything. At least I found out that my new 800-gram thinsulate boots are PLENTY warm enough. After I got back, I went and bought some new gloves (150-gram thinsulate, PLUS glove liners). Hping to get back out this coming Saturday for one last chance. If not, at least there's still flintlock season!

I finally took a doe on Saturday morning. The shot was only about 50 yards.

I'm extremely embarrassed to report that it took four shots to bring her down. The first three missed clean and went completely over her back. I finally calmed down before I took the fourth shot and forced myself to put the cross hairs where they belong, squeeze the trigger and follow through. She went down within 60 yards.

I couldn't believe that I missed cleanly three times! And with a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington no less! I could understand a miss if I was shooting something that kicked hard or if I hadn't gone to the range at all, but missing three times with that rifle at that range and with the amount of range time I put in is absolutely unexcusable.

Looking back on the shots, I wasn't following through and I was lifting my head to see where the shot went as I was pulling the trigger.

That will never happen again.

I still have buck tag to use in the late muzzle loader season. Good luck to all you guys that will be out there freezing your butts off like me while taking the flintlock for a walk.
