Default Smoothing out a P22

My mom just bought her first gun. It's a new Walther P22. When the hammer is in the cocked position and the slide is pulled back there is a noticeable "catch" when the slide passes over the hammer. I shot a well used p22 and it had the same catch. I have heard there are ways to smooth this out. What can we do?

I have no experience other than doing a lot of reading over the last few years. With that being said, would any of the fixes mentioned on page 47 of the "P22 bible" be applicable?

I'm most specifically wondering if it might be related to this:

2. A hammer tip that catches on the safety bar causing the slide to fail to complete it's cycle and in the process fail to chamber a round. The stock hammer tip will also peen the metal on the bottom of the breech block and is usually not square but rather drags on one side or the other.

If it sounds like that might be related, it looks like it addresses the issue starting on page 63.

I hope that was helpful. Good luck!

I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to get rid of the "catch" feeling. I think it is the just the firing pin disconnect button depressing as it transverses the frame. I oiled mine up real good and it does lessen the catching sensation, but it is still there. It doesn't seem to affect performance, just feels weird! LOL

Didn't know there was a p-22 bible. Thanks

And rocket. It seems best I can tell is it's the hammer hitting the back of the steel insert in the slide. One internes source said something about rounding the top edge of the hammer. That seems a little drastic.

I'll keep looking. t's not a huge deal, but it would be nice if it were really smooth.
