Make sure to drop the magazine and clear the chamber. The slide cannot be removed with the magazine in place. By the way, the LaserMax does not have any wires that can hang up. All functions and field strip are identical to the factory Glock. If there is an optical window on the end of the spring guide and there is a red indicator dot on the slide lock switch, you probably have a LaserMax.

The advice given here is all good especially the TopGlock Glock strip.

You can call Bob, Karrie or Josh at LaserMax customer service and they can walk you through the field strip. 1-800-LASER-03

I have a G23 with lasermax installed. Part of the lasermax kit is a replacement for the take down lever. This is what is giving you problems.

I have had this problem when I first tried to take the gun apart for cleaning.

The take down lever is the on/off switch. To activate the laser, you must slide the lever from left to right. The lever may be in the on position with dead batteries. Move the lever to the center to take the weapon apart.

That is exactly what I said. See I am not crazy. I want a laser max but need to get a semi auto rifle first before they illegally infringe on our rights after the new election.

Has any one on the board installed this device or had any problems? Or, should I just give it to a gunsmith and let him swear at it?
No experience with lasermax. However, does slide start to go off the frame when you do basic field strip - that is click, pull slide back just a bit, then press down on slide lock. I have found if slide goes off a bit but not whole way sometime pressing trigger can help. Almost a requirement with new york trigger spring. Just a suggestion.

No matter how much pressure I put on the lever, it won't move all the way down. Doesn't matter if its left, right, or centered. I don't want to bugger it any more than it already is by using tools on it.
I appreciate everyones support and suggestions but at this point I think I'm going to turn it over to a gunsmith.
For the record, I have no problem stripping my Sig, CZ's or Star Super.
Have a great 4th.

John

I am truly sorry that none of us could help you. If you are having that much trouble a smith might not be a bad Idea. Good safe way to go.

Here are the directions from one of my Glock Armorer's Manuals:

PRIOR TO FIELD STRIPPING, MAKE SURE THE PISTOL IS UNLOADED.
1. Pull back slide to release slide stop lever and close the action.
2. Point the pistol in a Safe Direction, Then Pull the Trigger. You will hear
the firing pin spring forward.

NOTE: The Trigger must be in the Rearmost Position for slide removal.

3. Hold the pistol in either hand so that four fingers grasp the top of the
slide. With these four fingers, pull and hold the slide back approximatley
1/10th inch (2.5mm)
4. Simultabeously, pull Down and hold both sides of the Slid Lock using the
thumb and index finger of your Free Hand.
5. Push the Slide Forward until it is fully seperated from the receiver.

NOTE: If you Pull the slide rearward to far, the slide will only move
about an 1/2 inch. This will require you to grip the pistol as if
you were going to fire it. With the free hand still holding the
slide, place your trigger finger on the trigger and pull. The
slide will then move off the receiver with ease.

I hope this will assist you.

P.S. I AM DEEPLY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
