Wow, nice collection of RPKs. I would love to have a drum magazine but they are so expensive. The etchings and marks on the wood really give the guns a lot of character too.
I take my kids to the range each weekend. I alternate which one I take. I allow them to pick which firearm they wish to shoot and tonight my son picked the RPK. He did so well with the iron sights at 25 yds, I told him just to shoot for center mass on his zombie target at 100yds. He did extremely well and I was really impressed with how well a 9 yr old could destroy a zombie with the iron sights of the RPK.

the drums are just a pain in the asss way to blow lots of ammo quickly.
the 40 rders work out better. i have a drum just to have, but it never gets used.

I agree! I use a 30 and 40rd mag when we are shooting but I would love to have a drum just because they look so cool.

I recognize some of the pics from theakforum.net

Yugo m72's are some sweet badass ak's.

Romanians are real slick too, but i had bad experiences with a WASR so it kind of ruins the romanian's for me.

the yugo's extra thick barrel, receiver, and construction in my opinion is built far better than the romanians. With some practice its pretty easy to get fist sized groups at 200 yards shooting prone. very accurate for iron sights.

yeah and 40 rounders are the way to go, look for the bulgarian ones as they are the best quality.

Did you say zombie targets?

And add a lot of weight to the gun. And then there's the heat...I was tired from firing a 75 rd drum standing, prone's the way to go with a drum.

Chinese drums have swing-open backs that allow faster & easier loading. European drums require stuffing each round one-at-a-time in through the top. Sounds like it takes a while to load.

I bought several Chinese 75 rd drums when they were $30 or so. I don't use them any more, but #2 might take a shine when she finds them and the RPK they fit...

Pre-Clinton price, that's all. I think I bought them in the late 1980s, very early 90s.

When you say that the Yugo barrel is extra thick, isn't that because they didn't have the resources to chrome line the barrels? (I thought that is why the Yugo SKS was a bit heavier)
One thing to note is that there are Romy AES-10 and Romy AES-10B models out there. The B models have a much heavier barrel than the other ones. That's what I have. I see that Centerfiresystems has the AES-10 and Century has an AES-10B. Also, note the different location of the bipod. Here is a picture difference from their websites:

Also note that the bipod being sent out on these things is a PPK bipod which moves around a lot and is not long enough to set the gun down with the mag inserted. I ground off the muzzle nut, put on a real RPK bipod and then replaced the muzzle nut with an AK brake.
