Default Help changing AK furniture
Hi!

I bought some K-Var furniture for my AK and it should arrive in a few days.

I tried to take the wood furniture off of my AK, and I am having no luck whatsoever. Instead of continuing to try to get a handle on this process, I'd much prefer to defer to an expert in my area. I live in Glen Mills, PA and would be willing to pay somebody to change out my AK furniture. Thanks a bunch!

What parts can't you get off? Maybe I can help. I've switched out my wood on my WASR-10. You don't need to pay someone, you can do it yourself!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the offer. I'm still unable to remove the lower hanguard. I just can't seem to slide the "keeper plate" forward.

Did you tap up the litlle retaining lever on the right side? If so you should only need to tap it foreward with a mallet to break it loose.

Also it's best to remove your cleaning rod first. then the lever should flip with the tip of a screw driver.

The retaining lever shaft has a recess milled into it. When you turn the lever, you're aligning the recess to allow clearance for the barrel to pass through. The lever must be one one position - You can't just "flip it up" or forward, or it won't release the plate.

Yeah I was half awake when I wrote that. I guess I could have worded that better.
