Default Project SKS Revamp

So i like to do things with my hands and I had a perfect candidate SKS for a project.

So let me lay out the project. I'm starting with a Yugo SKS that had a horribly pitted bore. It shot ok but i have a donor barrel off of a demilled reciever thats bright and shiny.

So i have the "new" barrel installed and timed to the reciever and thats as far as i got. There was a lot of filing involved to get the barrel timed, but i think i got a winner. Just one catch, i need to get a chamber reamer to cut a little bit out for headspace purposes.

Now for the cosmetic changes that are planned.
- Remove approx 1" of barrel. Re-thread to 14x1 LH thread (AK47 threading, the Yugo thread was 14x1 RH which had no good options for a flash hider)
- Installed Smith Enterprises Vortex flash hider.
- Remove grenade launcher sight in a clean manner. (dremel time...)
- Install rifle into Tapco T6 stock in Desert Tan.
- Do all the rest of the 922r compliance parts.

So while this is actually going to cost a bit of money to do, its certainly going to be interesting... Besides any excuse for me to buy tools is a good thing

Let me hear those comments...

Make sure you go with the tapco mags too, they were the only ones my sks would feed with reliably (after a brief break-in period).

Tapco is making bolts now for the SKS that will allow you to insert the mag in the bolt closed position, I dremeled my bolt and polished it before this was available with the same result.

Might as well head over to sksboards and get murray's spring loaded FP, and kivaari's trigger job if you're going the distance.

Tapco Mag is already on order (needed it for compliance anyway) as for the firing pin i am not worried for the time being. But i do appreciate the suggestion for the trigger job, as i am not adventurous enough to even try to take the SKS trigger group apart let alone tune it lol.

Right now though the goal is to get a reliable rifle out of my old range beater...

let me know if you zap your receiver or barrel etc...

I have a barreled yugo receiver that was chopped and recrowned etc down to 16"...I never though anyone would want it but I hung onto it...was going to put it up for sale for like $20 or trade for an ar-15 charging handle (which is only like 16 bucks...if anyone wants an SKS receiver..lol)
