I would think that testor's would work pretty good since modeling paint tends to be very thin and should flow easily into the etchings with minimal fuss.

ok so i tried this tonight......Went out and bought a ceramic enamel white paint....I asked the lady at AC Moore for paint to paint metal and this is what she recommended. She said it would with stand the high temps of a firearm. And heres the results....keep in mind this was my first try




Still have a small bit of finishing up to do but for the most part its done.

Wow, that looks pretty slick. Did you thin the paint at all, or did you apply it as is?

no i did not think the paint at all...just kind of rolled it in, just out about 100 rds through it today and cleaned and oiled the gun and paints is still in place

i have done something similar to this with glock mags. I just filled the groves in with testors and wiped off the excess. I have a little residue on the surface because the surface is a little irregular. I would have the same concern with an ar because of the slightly rough finish.
