Default Gold Inlay Filling

I stumbled upon this gold inlay kit available through Midway USA and based on the comments from other users, I decided to give it a try.

Click on the picture to see them a little larger if you desire.

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...160&t=11082005

The results are unbelievably good looking and it is about as easy as can be to do. Here are my results:

My Ruger Target pistol...

My Kimber Gold Match II...

The pictures aren't the best but when I got the camera the batteries were dead and I only had one new one in the refrigerator and borrowed one other not so good one. I only got one shot at this so retakes were out of the question.

They actually both turned out equally well but the photo of the Ruger doesn't do it quite the justice. the type in the Ruger ws nice and deep so it took the gold very well. Though the large logo type of the Kimber makes for a really dramatic appearance. I really like how they both came out.

If anybody will be doing an image like the Kimber logo type, after you smear the gold into the impression and get a nice even coloring, when you wipe the excess off wrap the patch soaked in the solvent around a pencil so you don't dig the color out of the more open cavities. That way you'll have a nice even application of the gold because your finger wont push the patch into the cavity when cleaning off the excess gold. The pencil will act a little like a squeegee; then turn the pencil and wipe again repeating as necessary.

Aw crap, I wish I had seen this thread before I posted this.

I want to do the exact same thing on my AR lowers, only using red and white instead of gold.

No, didn't take 10 minutes per gun; it takes longer to mask it than fill it.

This is not recommended to be used on parkerized surfaces; I don't know if that applies to you or not.

How durable is it?
I've been using a Birchwood-Casey gold lacquer inlay stick, but it occasionally needs to be reapplied after a good wipe-down of the gun.
