Thanks, thats what I was looking for. It would be a destructive device because its over .50 cal.
So what makes my 12g rifled barrel device not destructive, its a .75 cal rifle.

the atf has a certain list of "exempt" "sporting" guns.

the rifled 12 ga, as well as some antiques, like the .700 nitro, are on the list.

as far as where to find this magic "list", or the criteria for choosing the guns that make the list, i have no idea.
