Glad that it went well Kaos. I know some people have lots of problems, but it sounds like you got it done pretty quick. How exactly did you go about doing it? What tools did you use? Any complications?

The "average" local gunsmith has nothing to install XD sights that you dont have at home. Only thing is, HE is now responsible for damage

Most gunsmiths have sight pushers that will NOT move the XD sights.

You need a hydraulic press, so you might want to take it to a local machine shop and explain to them what you want done. They can remove the sights and you can fit and install your new ones. Some smiths like myself have a press, most dont. Machine shops can be your friend.

Otherwise, its one guy holding a massive chunk of steel...and the other guy swinging the sledge hammer. Add a case of beer, and it becomes a all night fun fest.

Honest to god here's what I did.

A buddy of mine who owns a gunshop pulled out a hammer and a punch and 3 minutes later (no vise...just us holding it by hand and using a punch on top a rag) the front sight popped out.

The rear sight...i had to put it in a vise between two blocks of wood and ended up having to "find a bigger hammer" that one took a litlle while longer because of the "find" portion of the hammer bit.

I believe you Kaos. I know some of the guys on the XD forum don't have much trouble at all changing out their sights, and others end up having to cut them out. I broke 3 steel punches trying to get mine out. The "big hammer" does make a huge difference. Glad that you were able to get it done without damaging your slide or sights.
