i just sent you a PM...

but i had a question about something. on the tapco site it states that once folded, you must heat treat the receiver. are you doing this as well? do you do it at home/work? if not, how much are they charging you where you get it done?

i want to stock up on some lowers for future builds. i need to do some research on AK's a bit. i know i want a pistol or two and a rifle or two.

for every x ammount of flats you pick up and fold how many go askew and need tossed? i figure with a jig not many if any.

if down the road i decide to sell an AK that i made, are there any issues with not having a serial number? i wouldnt think it would be a problem with a rifle, but i could see an issue with a pistol...

thanks for the help, and keep up the great work!
Grant

ive never screwed up a flat so bad it had to be tossed.

heat treating is one of the easier parts of the build. and frankly, i doubt 95+% of the builds being done will never be used hard enough to require the fcg holes being done. i would call the ejectoer tip a must though, especialy if you will be shooting steel.

as far as selling, ive heard alot of people saying diffrent thing, but under my understanding/interpretation of the laws.....

yuo can build a rifle or pistol so long as the weapon is legal (no fa/nfa, or what not) and you are legal able to own the weapon. it is RECCOMMENDED, but NOT REQUIRED that they be marked in any way.

you can not make them to sell.

IF you choose to sell them at a later date, the receiver must be marked. the markings must nclude makers name and addy, and a specific serial no. there are regs as to the markings too, iirc at least 1/8" high characters, and at least xxx deep (.003"???)

I thought that if you want to sell it you need to have an FFL/manufacturer agree to also add their information to the reciever, since they can pay the Federal Excise Tax. Once that is done you can sell it just like any other fire arm.

ATF only really wants the home made weapons passed on by means of inheritance/family which is why the right info is so damn hard to find. The above information about selling came from a local FFL/manufacturer. He may chime in later if he sees the thread.

if you make it you ARE the manufacturer. hence putting your info on it.
