Default new colt

just picked up my first colt revolver. and i went way back for it.
a US army model 1896.
this series of pistols(1889, '92, '94, '95, '96, '01 and '07. pretty much the same gun) saw colt creating what would become the modern revolver as we know it today, dual action with a swing out cylinder. it's limp wristed cartridge(.38 long colt) and weak, problematic action would also play a part in the army adopting the m1911. in fact it was this weapon's failure in teh phillipines, that paved the road to the 1911 and a return to the .45 caliber class of pistol cartridges.

need to do some research on it. it looks like i stole it...big time.
it's too late for the SAW but i'm not sure when it was made. it also missed the 1901 revisions.

this is not a shooter. i'am only the care taker of a piece of history.
i'm concidering this to be one of the corner stones of my collection.

It's a beauty. Old guns are cool.

I would hate to have a gun I couldn't shoot though. You wouldn't even consider shooting it with light loads?

if it breaks there is very little, to mostly no chance of fixing it.
this piece is too important to risk that.
the action is overly complicated and known to be weak....at over 100 years old i'm not risking it.
everybody that loves their or even just the 1911 in general should look at this and say thank you. it failed in a big way.

that and the only .38 colt i've seen is black powder rounds.

Colts have a history of being highly collectible! I also have a fancy for Colts (although, a bit more modern for me!)

Congrats on a beautiful gun!
