I just got done building my first AR-15. All total I followed 3 or 4 different sets of directions, watched the Life, Liberty, Etc. video a few times and I used a book that was written by a fellow forum member (wjkuleck). Yeah, I'm a very literal person. Mind you, I'm also a handgun and shotgun kind of grrl, so this really was an entirely new experience for me.
I'd say the build went well simply because I don't have any parts left, other than the trigger guard and the hammer & trigger roll pins, but that's because I upgraded those. There was only minimal swearing, and I only had to 'walk away' from it once, so that's always a good thing. It did take me a while to put it together though, mainly from double and triple checking my work, but also to a lack of correct tools. My punches sucked, my hammers (all 4 of them) sucked and I had to use a sharpening stone to shave down the clevis pin that I used to install my front pivot pin. At one point it seemed like I had the entire lower covered in 2" wide electrical tape, but even after that, all I can say is thank god for Birchwood Casey touch-up paint pens. At any rate, I learned a lot and now I know what I need to make my next build easier. It must also be said that a great deal of thanks for this entire project goes out to Lycanthrope. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of PM's I've swapped with him; on choosing the parts, to upgrading those parts and now finally to some late night 'function' checking messages. I mean, he swapped out my handguard for me last month and I paid him in beer, how cool is that? ![]() That all said, here are the specs on my grrl (oh yes, it's a grrl): Delton 16" Light Weight Rifle Kit w/ DTI 16" 1x9 Light Weight Barrel w/ DPMS Carbon Fiber Free Float Tube (Carbine) w/ Magpul Mil-Spec CTR Buttstock w/ Phantom 5C2 Flash Hider w/ Single Rail Gas Block w/ Ergo Sure Grip -Ambi w/ Lower Parts Kit with Rock River Arms 2 Stage Trigger w/ Flat Top Upper with M4 Feed Ramps w/ Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard Anvil Arms Lower As for sights, she's going to be wearing an Eotech 512 for the time being, and I'm going to add some BUIS when I figure out what I want. Now for the porn: I took over a kitchen counter and this is the 'before the build' shot: This is me being neurotic and matching up my parts (who knew RRA installed the disconnector for you): This is me actually reading directions (MommaC said I had to post this): This is the 'after the build' shot: And here she is all dressed up: Back to Front: Front to Back: Sorry for the long read, but you only ever get one chance at your first AR-15

You go girl! What did you name her?
By the way, I love how you laid the parts out on the instruction sheet. Looks like something I would have done. I think it's a female thing, every one knows that woman are more organized than men

GOOD JOB!!!!!
The first is always the hardest. You tend to over think and question your actions. After the first one is out of the way the next ones go together much faster. If you managed to get the front take down detent spring in without shooting it accross the room and a lot of swearing you did good. CONGRATS |
