Wow, I missed this thread.

That's awesome.
The way you view it as "history" in your hands is exactly the way I view these treasures. Enjoy it.

After giving her a nice cleaning and oiling, I took her to the range yesterday. I have to say that I was extremely impressed with her performance. (considering her age) I ran 50 rounds through her without one fail. And I am guessing the last time this was shot, had to be over 20 years ago, if not longer.
Man! they sure did build them to last.

Only one thing. I am not used to shooting 1911's, in fact this is the second one I have ever shot. I have fairly large hands, and I like to choke up in the rear. The beaver tail on this is kind of short. I guess she didn't like the way I was holding her, so she came back and bit me right between the thumb and index finger. We were good after that...

All in all, we had pretty nice first date...

WOW, lots of luck with them. That M1911A1 is SWEET. I really want a vintage WWII-era 1911, but they're so damn expensive these days.

This is JMHP, but don't make it a safe queen! While it should be kept clean and inspected for wear and signs that it needs maintenance, make sure you shoot it, that's what they were made for.

Wow, that is awesome! I am not much of a hand gun guy but I do want a 1911. I'm thinking of selling off a few guns to buy one. Congrats on your gift. I'll bet that will even convince some of the people in the "is there a God" thread. LOL

You're right, my mistake. For some reason I thought I saw a curved mainspring housing.

Thanks,
And I have no intensions of making her a safe queen.
She is going to be my star attraction at the range. You are right, she was meant to be shot, and I don't plan on stopping that now.
She's still doing exactly what she was made for, "kicking ass and taking names".
