Default What is the deal about WalMart?

I keep hearing conflicting reports about Wal Mart and gun sales. Some people say that it is because of the controlling interests in Wal Mart are cutting down or even totally eliminating gun sales, I also heard that it is just a removal of guns from some underperforming stores.

Either way I don't care. I wouldn't buy a gun or ammo at WalMart. My local gun shops are the people I'd rather supprt anyways. Who cares if I save .75 cents at wal mart.

I buy ammo from them. They;re taking the guns because most would buy form gun shops, and they gun sales take too long.

Wal*Mart is not eliminating sales across the board. They are eliminating sales in stores that do not produce positive results. This has been discussed here before:

Bought a box of Ammo from my favorite gun shop. Cost me $21. Went over to do some shopping at Wal-Mart and decided to see if they carried it. Same box of Ammo was $14. I think that is a savings of a bit more than 75 cents. I buy guns at Gun Shops. I buy Ammo at Wal-Mart. That way I can shoot my favorite gun a lot more.

It's tough for the small retailer. He's not making much on major purchases on a percentage basis. All of the margin is in the accessories and supplies. This problem is compounded by the incredible buying power of the big box stores (Gander Mountain, Wal*Mart, Cabelas, etc). The same is true in all retail sectors. In firearms, there are certain brands and models that the big box prices below the small retailer's cost. The big store is making money and the little guy, if he tries to price match, loses money.

OTOH, it is easy to feel taken advantage of by the little guy. However, quite often the small retailer is competitive on premium items, including ammo. Give the guy a chance to do some business. Keeping him in business is to our advantage, too. Most of the big boxes don't have the really cool stuff.

We're talking about gun shops. If you are correct, that's not a gun shop.

It's a criminal enterprise.
