The concern regarding "advertising" that you have firearms is a valid one depending on your location.
I live just outside of Pittsburgh and I have a small NRA "eagle" logo decal on the back window of my truck cap,(see link) and on the rear side window of my wife's Cavalier, http://www.nrastore.com/nra/Product....tid=SS%2021716 but I wouldn't do the bold NRA letters due to my location. You can't be home 24/7 and letting my wonderful "neighbors" know that I own something worth breaking in for isn't the best idea in my opinion. The folks in my neighborhood who can be trusted already know I have firearms... those who can't be trusted will just have to learn about them the hard way if they ever decide to invite themselves in without permission. I do wear NRA clothing and some pins and they HAVE generated small talk while shopping and such.

Here's why i think the way i do, and you think the way you do. http://chesterpa.areaconnect.com/cri...=hanover&s2=PA I'd like to be able to voice relevant opinions on personal security without having my commitment to the second or first amendment questioned. I'm a proud gun owner who doesn't think making myself a target for burglary or wearing "shoot-me-first shirts" is a prudent course of action. Next time you're about to speak, think. Not everyone's situation is like yours. Last edited by MarcS; March 13th, 2007 at 06:45 AM. |

amazing the divide between people who live in urban areas and those who don't.
Perhaps your premise was flawed, Nate. |

I've been "playing" with guns since I was a kid.My father retired from the military after 33 years as a colonel and God bless him he's been retired since 1985.I never let any strangers know that I am a gun owner or that I am pro guns.Let it be a surprise. Also my front door is never locked but I trust my three "kids" a German Shepherd-2years old and a Rottweiler-9 years old.Good kids....I don't even need my guns. And my alarm system is a 3 years old Shihtzu that hears any noise and wakes up the other two.

hmmm... I admit the crime rate is much different. Perhaps in your situation I would not post that I was a gun owner all over the place. But then again in your situation I might move to someplace where I could feel free to express what I believe.

It all depends on the premise that you believe:
A. If a criminal knows I have guns I'll be a good target. B. If a criminal knows I have guns I'll be a poor choice to target. Truthfully, working with the delinquent population, I think there are both kinds of predators. You pick your poison, I suppose. On the other hand, I think displaying gun ownership in the general public is a good thing. Because....... Nothing risque in the eye of the public was ever normalized from lack of exposure. Remember the outlook on sex, drugs and rock and roll in the media over the course of the last 40 years? You see enough of it and it becomes OK. It works for the bad stuff, it's about time it's used for good advantage. |

I'm not talking about a criminal targeting me, i'm talking about a criminal targeting my property. If you have gun stickers on your car, prepare for your car to get broken into by someone looking for guns while you sleep soundly in your bed totally unaware.
Nate, not everyone has the option to move and your implication that i could just pick up and move simply ignorant. I pay very low rent where i live and it is a reasonable distance to where i attend school in philadelphia. I could move further out and not have access ot my education or move to a nice neighborhood in proximity to philadelphia and not have access to housing. Which should i pick? |

Pittsburgh even beats Philly with theft and burglary by a whole block on that crime rate site. Didn't expect that one. Sorry, but I'm not going to pick up and move to a safer area just so I can be cool and put gun stickers all over my back window, wear my GOTX shirts, and open carry.

The word "might" was added because not knowing your situation I cannot say for sure what I would do. You are not by any stretch of the imagination doing anything wrong or unwise by living where you do. One of the great things about this nation is the choice to live where and how you want to! (within reason of course) Sorry for the confusion, it was not my intent to imply you are stupid for living where you want. I live where I want too
