PICS denied my new gun Purchase!?

As title says.

WTF!?

I went to pick up my new gun (Romanian PSL) yeasterday.
They were busy, since they had several people wanting to pick up the gun they got through local auction.
4 people went through PICS, and they were all approved within min.
When they did mine, it took unualy long time, and then operater came on and said PICS just went offline(Just my luck). and said that she'll run it first thing in Morning.

Shop got call from them saying that they are researching my transaction(around 3pm). I called them around 5pm, they said that PICS lady called back and denied my application. No reason given. And I was to be given challenge form(SP4-197).

What does this mean? I've bought many guns in this past few years, and I never had any issues. including when I applied for CCW permit. Last gun I bought was in end of September, and PICS approved it in like 30 sec.
Nothing changed since then.
I haven't been arrested, no convictions, i'm not under any protection orders, any indictment, no DWI, no compliant made to me anyway shape or form.

I'm same person(as far as criminal record goes) as I have been this past few years.

Now, I'm all bent out of shape. PICS have no number that I can call and find out why I was denied. Only thing I can do is to mail(snail mail that is) challenge form, and wait until they do whatever they need to do, and send me back letter - Hopefuly to approve the sale, and saying it was system screwup, and that they are sorry for any inconvinience it may have caused.

But who knows how long that'll take.
Gunshop said they are not selling my gun to anyone until at least i figure out what the hell is going on here. So thats not the issue.

All seriousness aside, this sometimes happens for no good reason at all, and as soon as you send in the challenge form you'll get a reply within a week or so and find out what's what... there will also be a number to call so you can talk to them if you wish. If you search the forum for threads related to this issue, I'm pretty sure I saw the phone number posted on one of them, if you want to try to get some preliminary information. I think the lady's name is Crystal Shipe or something like that.

It is aggravating not knowing what is in their computer... hopefully it will just be a glitch, but the vast majority of the cases I've heard of so far were specific incidents that they wanted explained, or because somebody with your name (or a real close proximity) just got committed to an insane asylum, that sort of thing.

Thats gotta be a crappy feeling to get denied. I know I'm on thin ice whenever I submit anything to the NJSP, once NJ denies you, its damn near impossible to fix it, and get approved again.

Good luck to you, I'm sure it just has something to do with system going down. Hopefully they will get back to you quickly, and I'm glad to see that the gun shop is being polite and not selling on you.

theres no number to call... you HAVE to send in the challenge form if you would like to purchase that gun or guns in the future in general.. they will get back to you probably with a reversal letter, and they have i believe 2 weeks to get back to you with the letter plus allowing for mail time to and fro etc... happened to me and i got a reversal letter eventually... just happens sometimes.

After I got my reversal letter in 2001 and now my PICS checks go right through. I have never had a research or a delay since. It was a PIA to go through, but once you go through the process it actually have made my purchases quicker.

im actually still waiting on the results of my challenge form, it should be here any day now. ive heard of people being put on research before for dozens of reasons. sometimes it is a glitch. you might try going to buy the gun at another store, ive heard that works sometimes

They prolly wont tell me nothing, but I'll call.
Since im a lisenced proffessional, its important for me to know that IF there is something on my record that I don/t know about.
Since everytime I get hired at new job, I'll have to submit to FBI criminal back ground check.
Which, obviously, i have had no issue passing in the past.

AND i'm in search of new job these days...

Do reversal letter tell you why you were denied in the first place?
