Wait a minute, you said the system was down and the operator was going to do the check by hand and it came back within two hours as denied? I'd wager dollars to donuts that the operator screwed the pooch on it, entered something incorrectly or on the wrong system and that is what caused your problem. Fill out the form and send it registered, return receipt requested. That way you'll know when they received it and who signed for it.

No. here is how it went

I went to pick up my new gun Wedsnday afternoon(8th). After they ran PICS for several people, they ran mine - around 4:30.
Usualy, my PICS come back within 30sec(Iwas always told because I have pretty unique name, its quick), but this time, he was on the phone for good 10min before operater finaly came on and told him that PICS is down, and she'll ran it first thing in morning, because she gets off at 5pm.

I'm not sure when PICS called my gunshop Thursday. But they open at 3pm, and I called them shortly after(may be 3:10pm?), and they said that they said that I'm being researched.

I called them back around 5pm to ask them how often these "research" occure, which at this point they told me that they just got phone call from PICS within last few min that I was denied.

This happened to my dad too. He was denied trying to buy a revolver the DAY AFTER he had just bought two other handguns. He sent in his challenge form, and a week later had the reversal completed.

Just send it in and relax bro. Stuff happens with computers.

Luckily with H.B. 1845 on the Governors desk you'll know why if this happens to you again.

I got denied last year after more than 20 years of problem-free gun purchases -- and only a couple weeks after passing whatever background check the govt. does to issue a C&R license. I thought at the time that is was due to the PICS "upgrade" Fast Eddie was so hot for -- this happened shortly after the upgrade. Anyway, I challenged it and it got reversed, although it was a PIA process. Turned out a criminal had identifying info very close to mine -- you never know what can pop up in their searches.

By the way, you might want to run a credit check just to be sure no one has been monkeying with your identity. I was told by a local cop that sometimes a sudden denial through PICS can be the result of identity theft.

Good luck in your appeal.

When they did mine, it took unualy long time, and then operater came on and said PICS just went offline(Just my luck). and said that she'll run it first thing in Morning.
I was at the auction that these guys bought guns at. Some nice stuff there.

But knowing your PSL is just sitting at the gun shop, maybe I should run and see if they will sell it cheap! haha....

But really, like everyone else said, send in the form right away. I don't have any experience personally with it. But from what others have said, they usually take care of it right away.

and I am sure everything will be fine.

I was talking to a gunshop guy who actually took the call.
I guess he told me that I was not denied, but it was "undetermined".
and said that basicaly they just wants to know more about me.

Is that better then Denied?

Ha ha...I enjoy searching for stuff and doing research. Those numbers were actually found on one of the newsletters that the PICS sends out to FFLs. December 2007 issue to be exact!

See this link for other issues!

Glad you enjoy the extra info There's lotsa stuff out there, sometimes you just have to dig a little to find it.
