For you young guys with families, there's really nothing to do but turn in your firearms when demanded... unless you're ready to abandon your family and go out "on the run"... and hope that local armies were starting to form in official revolution, and you'd have some support... lest you're out there on your own like a hunted lone wolf... a tough road to travel, indeed.

Older men, with fewer direct responsibilities since their children are now grown and on their own, well... I guess we have the luxury of choosing whether we want to ride things out peacefully and go out quietly ("the straw death", as the Norse used to call it), or taking up arms directly and starting what insurrection we could with the few quality physical years we may have left... even if it were on a sporadic "lone wolf" or "going out in a blaze of glory" basis.

I fear most will face this choice as hollow men, deciding to go out not with a bang, but a whimper.

True that.

If faced with the option of shooting a fellow US citizen for doing their job as ordered by the commander in chief that WE elect into office (sort of) or obeying the law to prevent being locked up I'd say 99% of us would hand over our guns (all the registered ones anyway) and say thank you may I have a recipt.

History has proven over and over again that faced with the threat of punishment, law abiding citizens will give in to illegal search and seizures every time to keep their "freedom". We've witnessed it dozens of times on this very forum, people having guns taken for no reason, people having their cars and person searched, their house searched... you name it and never once was a "foxhole" mentioned, or did a shoot out occur while the "man" was disarming them.

I've said it before and will again, I'm the sole income for my household, Without me bringing in a paycheck we lose everything and are out on the street. I can't let that happen, so yes if they police came to my door and said "Sir we have a court order to take your handguns and rifles" I would let them and ask for a receipt for what they took. I'd be insanely pissed but that would be it and life would go on as normal.

Now if I didn't have a wife and child to think about my answer would probably be a little different... but the fact is that I do and they take priority.
Two very good thought provoking posts!

I didn't vote in the poll because I'm really not sure what I'd do.

I think that the months or years leading up to the total disarmament of our country would dictate what my course of action would be.

I have to agree with you on this, as your take will more than likely be the real way things would play out. We're all armchair heroes until the real SHTF. However, we must all consider though that without somebody standing up to tyranny, we wouldn't be who we are today, so I wouldn't go saying we all would do this or that. I'm sure there will be those who decide that if they want my guns then "they can come and get them over my dead body etc". I do agree again that most would turn them in, and in all reality I would think of my family first and the consequences as well. But as I said before, I doubt anyone will come knocking....People tend to forget the past very quickly.

I'll be holed up in the foxhole if it comes to illegal seizure (as defined by the US Constitution). I'd have to be given a damn good reason to give up my firearms, not only do they protect me, this happens to be my hobby now. They will have to give me an equally effective deterrent against violent attack. Not to mention, a new hobby.

That 1% is still a lot of people and a lot of guns. Let's say we only have 50 million gun owners here in the U.S.. I think it's more, but let's say it's 50 mil.

That's 500,000 people who would not give their guns away. Let's say that only 5% of those would defend themselves violently if necessary. That's 25,000 people. I wouldn't want to be knocking on doors asking people to hand over their guns knowing that at least 25,000 people would have no problem shooting me.

Anyway, it's going to happen slowly. They take one right after another. This has been going on for decades now. Look how many restrictions we already have.

Once the SHTF in this country i will depend on my guns for food. I do hunt now but it is more to supplement what I buy. Instead of waiting for NOBAMA's socialist handouts I will be supplying my own sustenance for my family as well as protection, as I do now. There is no way I will voluntarily hand over my rifles' shotguns, pistols or anything else I may have.

I don't think any of them plan on retiring during Obama's reign if he's elected. So it won't be an issue.

I've given it a lot of thought. I have C&R guns traced back to me. I won't fight about that. People sell rifles on this forum all the time. They are not traced.

I'm not handing over any of those without a fight. I just cannot fathom doing it.

I know that it is a major fear but I don't think that banning guns is going to be the first priority if Obama gets elected. And that is a big IF. Putting the economy back together is a much much larger issue at present. Seriously, I feel very sorry for whoever ends up getting elected just because of the mess that they are walking into.

If he gets elected and gets the economic situation under control then we will need to start worrying about our guns. When and if the shit hits the fan though guns are going to be neccessary for survival whether that is protecting your property or hunting food.
