This really sucks big time, man. You help this guy out and now he reams you. No good deed goes unpunished, I guess

Sure hope this guy doesn't fall on the asphalt repeatedly when the cops catch him

Hope your stuff is returned intact and the guy gets some jail time. Maybe he has priors and he'll get 3 strikes and he's in the can for a long time?

Damn man...
That right there is really terrible. I hope they get your stuff back. Sounds like the police reacted in a decent way.
It is sad the way people tear each other apart. Biting the hand that feeds you comes to mind. Philadelphia is prolly right...drug addiction takes the drive for personal survival away and replaces it with a drive to get high...Though doing what you do I bet you deal with this often. Sorry it hit so close to home and sorry you have lost firearms and that your roommate lost the cash he is saving up....
Good luck and be safe today....
Hope you or the officers catch him...
-A

your insurance should cover the guns up to $1000 depending on your policy.

I know the sick feeling after being ripped off, it's not fun.

It seems like helping people often comes back to bite you, on a personal level and even internationally. Receiving handouts just doesn't seem to make the recipient fond of the donor, look at all those Third-world countries that we've been shipping food and medicine and well pumps and clothing and whatever to for decades, and most of their residents cheered when the Twin Towers fell.

Dirt bags seldom appreciate what you do for them. I can't tell you how many stories I've heard about friends stealing identities, children and grandchildren ripping off the people who raised them. Drugs are often the reason, but there's plenty of stories where drugs were not involved, the criminal is just an a-hole.

Sometimes people end up in a bad place because there was a flood, or their employer folded the same month that their house burned down. It happens. But MOST of the time, people who end up destitute are there because they are not particularly good people. Poverty is the default condition, you end up there by not doing what you should. When your old buddy shows up with nothing except the clothes on his back, you probably are not his savior, just his next victim.

That's a sobering view. It's also eloquent, thoughtful, and a good warning to those of us that care more than we think from time to time.

Rep to follow.

Bah...gotta spread the love. Owe you one when I can.

See if your homeowners or renters insurance will cover the guns and safe. And victims compensation may cover some or all the money if he can't pay.

But you can bet you ass I'd prosecute him to the full extent I'd be on the DA every day asking about the case

I was wondering why noone had mentioned this yet.. I know you want your stuff back and it sucks that it was stolen, but you might as well see if HOI will cover it, most of the time they do cover firearms and petty cash (up to 5000 i think). Don't quote me on that but thats what i've been told

Here it turns out the person that broke in was a friend of mine, and also my neighbor's son. Apparently, he broke the side lock I had in my window, removed my air conditioner, made off with my lockbox, then put the air conditioner back in. He must have thought that I wouldn't notic my box being gone and didn't think he would get caught by his step-brother.

Inside my lockbox, was my RugerP95 and my Taurus PT25, and $750 that belonged to my roommate because she was saving for immigration to become a citizen of the U.S. This is the same guy who I fed and let stay at my house month's back when he was homeless. Don't get me wrong, I am very upset that the money and my guns are gone (he didn't get the Beretta, I was carrying it), I'm more disappointed in the fact that someone could do that to a person that did so much for them...

Now my guns are probably getting the serial numbers filed off as we speak. I just spent 4 hours walking the streets of my town. The cops stopped me a couple times, giving me updates on where they've looked, and joked they hope they find him before I do. They told me to call them if I see him, and to try to be smart about things and not get myself into trouble... I gotta hand it to my police, even seeing me open carry knowing I was looking for someone, never once did they ask for my permit... I guess the old saying is true, if you put something under a cop's nose, they'll rarely bother with it, just don't try and hide it... Surprisingly, I didn't even know these officers... lol

And to my forum friends I haven't talked to in awhile, I appologize, I've just been super busy. Hope y'all can forgive me. Well, off to guarded sleep for me. I took tomorrow off, so if you're in New Castle and see a large, angry man in a POOFA shirt, stop and say hello... lol

I am sorry, but it just goes to show you really can't trust anyone. It is a sad fact but it is what it is. I am starting to believe that window AC units are a very strong liability. My sister had hers kicked in and her place robbed. Makes you think.
