While the video made me sick and angry, the additional info makes me, well, sick and angry. Sounds like the LEO's used leading questions and caused the escalation. Once the escalation started, it all went down hill from there.

Where did you get the questions they asked I did not see that in the Media video?

Yep, can tell you never had to deal with a drunk, combative, uncooperative individual. Strip Searches are for "my" safety, along with "their" safety. They aren't fun to do. They are a pain. I know they are being recorded. Not like this just suddenly happened. It was planned. And yes it is Standard Procedure.

If there was no real reason to arrest then everything done to her is a crime.
If there had been no reason to arrest her. She would have won her case already. But she hasn't won anything. The police would be apologizing. They aren't. AM America would be having a field day with this. They aren't. It would be all over CNN. It isn't.

Quote:
The next time an officer tries to stop her in traffic will she now panic thinking it is going to happen again?
No, but I be she is a heck of a lot more cooperative. Maybe she won't stagger around drunk in public no more. Maybe she will have her own ID on her. Maybe she will remember what having a smart a** attitude can get you.

Quote:
If her family and friends get pulled over will they panic?
Notice how none of "her family and friends" have come forward to say that "She isn't like this. She really is a nice lady." mmmmm. Wonder why.

Quote:
Now think what the out come will be if she is carrying the next time. Or her husband is.
They weren't mugged. They were approached by uniformed officers. She was drunk, she shouldn't be carrying (another thread we discussed this one)

Quote:
The Officers had better come up and talk to the press with WHY they took her in and do it fast.
Why when they did nothing wrong? It was the lady who was a jerk and uncooperative. She tried to make an issue out of it. Apparently the news media found out she was the jerk, and had let it dropped. Not a good story after all.

Here's a news flash for you....You can be arrested for ANYTHING ...doesn't make you guilty....nor deserving of this. I will admit there's likely more to this story...nonetheless this proves a badge on your chest doesn't put brains in your head. Did they really need to remove every shred of clothing to keep her safe....Me thinks they could have left bra and panties and even patted those down by a female office if they wanted. I agree those cops should all be forcibly stripped in Times Square and left there pilloried for a while. Morons.

Having said all that I remain quite grateful for all the GOOD men and women in uniform who try to do the right thing.

The striped her because she may have been suicidal. You can not leave a person with a bra that could be used to hang oneself. If she killed herself the n it would have been how dare they leave her with the bra when they knew she would do this, Cops can not win. She did not comply so they had to do it for her. They did not beat her they just took off her clothes.

For those of you who have never been stripped. Here is a basic strip search procedure.

You are told to remove all your clothing. Either you do it or we will.

Once you are naked. Your clothing is searched by one officer, while another one may start the procedure on you.

Lean over toward me and then you run your hands thru your hair. Stand up and then run your hand thru your beard if you have one.

Open you mouth. Pull lower lip down, Pull upper lip up. Lift and stick out your tongue.

Turn your head so I can look in your ears. Pull ear forward so I can look behind it.

Arms up. I look closely in your armpits for items. Arms out in front of you, spread your fingers wide. Flip your hands over.

If your a male: Spread your legs. Lift you penis. Pull your foreskin back. Lift your testicles.

Turn around and face the wall. Place your hands on the way and lift one foot. Wiggle your toes. Lift the other foot. Wiggle toes.

Take one step backward. Bend over, grab your butt cheeks and spread your cheeks and hold it till I tell you to release. Some places will tell you to squat and cough. Most women are told to do this, since cavity searches must be done by a doctor.

You can now get dressed.

If you happen to be fat, you will have to lift various body parts where you could have something stashed in the folds of fat. If your hair is braided. You will either remove the braids, or maybe they will just run a metal detector over your head.

This entire process is video taped.

This is pretty much a standard Strip Search. Some may vary. But not by very much.

Wow...note to self to not get myself in a strip search situation. Question..isn't there a few flavors...one involving full cavity search and one not?

Another curiousity of mine is...How is it we came to be viewing this video?? Someone posted it was released by the woman...but I mean do they give you a copy of your strip search video when you are released as a memento of your visit???

It is probably the product of a discovery request by Plaintiff's Counsel. Most likely a subpoena was involved. She has an Attorney, after that, almost anything can be requested/demanded. Defendants would need to have a really good reason to withhold anything.

Be safe.

Hope Steffey Update: State Attorney General To Investigate

February 8, 2008 · 14 Comments

by matttbastard
Larry Shields of the Salem News reports that Stark County Sheriff Tim Swanson has officially requested that Ohio Attorney General Mark Dan “review all the circumstances surrounding the arrest and incarceration of Hope Steffey in October of 2006,” a vicious incident labelled “way out of line” by Cuyahoga county Sheriff Gerald McFaul (h/t ThePoliticalCat).
Additionally, Muriel Kane of The Raw Story reports that video footage taken prior to the now-infamous strip search tape may exist, noting that “jailhouse surveillance cameras show a deputy with a handheld camera filming Steffey being escorted to her cell.”
Kane also suggests that dashboard video of the arrest, originally believed to be non-existent because the arresting officer claimed the camera was off, may not have been disclosed to Steffey’s lawyers.
Just remember, kids: Steffey is a convicted criminal; don’t let THE MEDIA (and ur lyin’ eyes) deceive you; that’s Sheriff Swanson’s duty.

It was. The police department as still failed to provide all the video tapes asked for. At one point, they had claimed some of the incident wasn't taped. Unfortunately for them, other security cameras captured a deputy standing outside the cell taping during a time frame the woman says she was assaulted, and the cops said wasn't taped.

IOW, the police have been caught lying, which is never a good thing. This still hasn't been resolved, and the litigation is supposedly still ongoing.

As for why the media isn't still covering it? She's white, and you just can't get folks worked up or race bait when the purported victim of police abuse is white. It doesn't sell, and what sells is all the media cares about. Same reason you never hear about missing black women, but a missing white woman will be in the news for weeks. One sells, one doesn't.

Besides, a few days later some dummy Sheriffs in Florida dumped a dude in a wheelchair on the floor and laughed at him. Now, THAT sells.
