A few years back, a friend and his son were fixing a broken pipe in the ceiling, and as they fixed the pipe and hammered up the new drywall ceiling, the head of the hammer flew off and hit my friends son in the head, leaving a nice lump. Couple of days later the lumpy headed boy flew over the handlebars of his bike and broke his collar bone. As the docs examined him, one of them noticed the lump and asked the boy about it. He said his dad hit him with the hammer. Well my friend needed the help of a lawyer to fight the county off and it took months. We laugh about it now but it's all about gathering and recording data on everyone. You cannot buy spark plug without the counter guy asking for your life history. Use cash and don't give out any information they ask for...what a world ehh...Mike45

Firtst off, I hope everything has, or will, work out OK for you Frenchy. Our doctor asked us about "firearms" on our first visit. I politely asked "what does this have to do with a 2 week old baby". His reply was that when you have a child, you tend to be around more people with children. I never answered him, but he did finish by saying that it went with many other things in making sure that I "child proof" my home. Appearently he doesn't have kids. There is no such thing.

I'm going to be a doctor, start medicals school in August, and I'm all about responsible gun ownership. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that doctors would be asking that kind of question to try to pad statistics for someone else. I wouldn't be surprised if they're getting paid pretty good for it too. Heck if they came down here to Texas, almost everybody would answer yes, and then people would see that it isn't a "health risk" when there's a weapon in the home. I would have told the doctor sure, there's a baseball bat from my son's game, knives in the kitchen, pens in my office drawer (inmate style), a hatchet in the garage for when I go camping, yeah, there's lots of weapons in my home, lol. That's just totally crazy to me.

I don't see this as an assault , but just the "system " looking out for your kids well being ,,,,no I didn't read all the rest of the responses to your letter , but its like the bank teller asking you for identification cause she doesn't know you ,,,only to protect your money, and I DO know there is an anti family violence force out there , my friend was part of that, all a kid has to do is make a call even if the parents are just fair discipline , but they are just looking out for the kids well being ,,, its better than if your kid got beat up and nobody asked a thing,,,I'm not for the "BIG BROTHER" thing but I just think it's better than no questions at all ,,,,If anything is worded wrong then give me a chance to rebut ,,,but I think they are just looking out for you ,,,and your's TAS |

I have no problem with a bank teller asking me for ID, as the asking is relevant to the situation at hand. I want money, teller doesn't know me, they ask for ID to verify I'm not a fraud. However, a doctor asking about weapons in the house, IMHO, is irrelevant to their taking care of my children. It doesn't help them diagnose sickness or ailment. I want them to look out for my children's health, I don't want them playing big brother. I know I need to keep my house safe, and I don't need the doctor telling me how. Also note that the doctor didn't ask me about guns, they asked about WEAPONS. Hell, to some people my pocket knife, or a steak knife, or a BUTTER knife could be a weapon. Little ambiguous, don't you think? Given that, between kitchen flatware and what most people have in their garages or tool sheds, EVERYONE would have to answer "yes" to that question.

It all about gathering an information data base---any time I am asked a question that I feel doesn't need to be answered for a service I am paying for, I just get blunt and tell them it's none of their darn business, and ask them a question that is none of my darn business.
My doctor knows better than ask about weapons as he is shooting and hunting buddy--his question may be more in lines of what are carrying today or he may show me what he is carrying and ask what I think about his firearm. As far as a bank asking for ID before cashing a check no problem, but ask what I need that $1,500 dollars or so for, that's none of the banks business. That's just like a store asking what the I ammo I am buying is for a rifle or pistol, I tell to take there choice as can legally buy for either rifle or pistol. Sorry about the rant but their too much of an information data base out there. grizz |

Even if the author of the question had the best of intentions, the data could be misused later by another in-duh-vidual with "issues". The data wouldn't have the same confidentiality protection as your tax returns, et al.
