Perhaps the same treatment for the news forum?

Why? I thought the news forum was meant to discuss news items.

And I thought the news forum was to announce news items.

NONE....i mean NONE that i participate in.. just wondering what other sites have this in effect? |

The rule concerning classifieds discussion is meant to prevent numerous problems (and therefor numerous rules) regarding classifieds ads at no cost to the usefulness of the classifieds. The result is you simply must PM the seller. Really no more difficult than posting a reply. |

Seriously, if you think of the Classifieds section as being a PAFOA version of Craigslist, then the rules will make a lot more sense to you. The classifieds section is implemented as a vB subforum, but I surmise that this is largely because it was the easiest technological solution to making a classifieds section. DanP and Doug have better things to do than re-implement Craigslist just for PAFOA. Last edited by awkx : March 11th, 2008 at 07:42 PM. Reason: Me had bad speling and grammur |

They are in place in the Classified forum for a good reason, too. How would you like it if someone posted a reply to your 'rifles for sale' ad flaming you for your prices, your choice of rifle manufacturers, your wallpaper, or your spelling? Don't you see how that could be annoying and not useful at all? I know for a fact that training facilities are hesitant to post classes there out of fears of the threads turning into a train wreck because of a few pinheads. Sure, we deal with the pinheads when they do, but it results in bad vibes and drama. It can all easily be avoided by limiting the ability to reply in that single forum. I think you get a lot of freedom on this board, more than you'll find on others.

doug,
while i agree every site has rules, i personally have not encountered this type of rule on any other forum. this is a firearm education/conversation site, not craiglist. i FULLY understand there was/has been/is a problem in our classified sections. i do not have the answer for you. while there is a bunch of freedom on this board, the noose is slowly being tightened...imo. imo, the freedom is not as free flowing as some other sites, better then some though. without comparing to other sites, as this is pafao, the freedom is not what it used to be...again imo. i have nothing but the utmost respect for this site and the people who run it, just seeing a few changes, that, i personally, do not agree with. just voicing my opinion, i have in the past, been very "voicy"...(if thats a word...lol), for both the good, great and the nbot so good and great here. all in all...i must keep thanking you and dan for providing a great wealth of info, i have learned a tremendous amount of info here! respectfully, jeff |

The reason you see more policy is the board is growing at an alarming rate, and the old timers like you and me are being faced with 30 new recruits a day. Not all of them have perfect social skills (lord knows I don't) and we're honestly getting tired of all the fighting. It doesn't reflect well on the PAFOA to have train wreck threads which the antis can point to and learn from.
We don't need more wedge issues to divide us. OC vs CC is enough! I am thankful for your support of our fine boards, and I assure you we have no intentions of limiting the flow of ideas and information. You must bear in mind that the PAFOA is a political organization seeking to combat gun control legislation first and foremost. The forum is a vehicle to help get everyone involved, and naturally to make some friends. I've met quite a few here. It's really not so bad, you're just old like me and remember the good ol days when the board had 100 members and everyone knew everyone. Hang in there, Tiger!
