Pennsylvania is a great state...it just goes to show how good we can be to each other. p.s. i had nothing to do with the snow ball incident and santa clause at the vet......

I am also sorry i missed this thread.
This is the first thing that i have read since getting up this morning. Yet again I am amazed by you wonderful folks. Seriously. I am very thankful that I get to be on this forum. This world is so often full of harsh reality's that fate (or disturbed idiots) deals out. Which is why it is so important to look out for each other. The astonishing part is that this thread is an example of people going way beyond what is normally considered helping each other out. It shows people helping out a coworker of a man who many(myself included) have not met face to face. I am glad y'all are out there in this world.

I too am sorry i missed this one. i would be willing to donate some money if she would be interested in taking a few classes in defense/ awareness. If she wants to take on the responsibility of owning/carring a gun i think that should be her own choice at her own pace, definately not something to be rushed into scared.

Dan you must not be human, starting this organization for free, then offering up a gift like this to your coworker. I really wish i could have seen this a few days ago.
Your a good man Charlie Brown... I mean DanP.

Dan,

If a gun is not in her immediate future, perhaps some pepper spray?
I'm working in the Navy yard, and I pass through Philly every day. I'd be happy to provide her with one of those units made by Kimber:

I always say I picked the best occupation and hobby, and this goes to prove it. 800 dollars in 4 hours for someone nobody here even knows, is amazing. It goes to show the great generosity of everyone here. I really, really appreciate having this forum, not just because it relates to my favorite hobby, but because you people are so kind.

I really hope she'll be okay. I couldn't even imagine having to go through that, but I'm sure her faith in humanity is restored because of everyone's generosity. I'm very glad she got to at least replace and (hopefully) get more gifts for her boy. That would have been crushing.

Curious, was she even told what the group was that raised the cash? Wasn't sure if in the way of shielding her from the idea of firearms that perhaps that information wasn't passed along, I would think it would be good for her to know that firearms owners donated to save Christmas

She's aware that the money I raised came from the organization I run, she may or may not yet know what that organization is.

My main concern is I didn't want this to look like some sort of politics play, because it was not. This wasn't about PAFOA or firearms, it was about helping a family in need.

After I get back to work I will most likely tell her more information about where the donations came from and ask her her thoughts about self defense. The ideas on pepper spray are good if she's not into the idea of firearms (which some people simply aren't, and that's fine.)

I agree 200% with these statements. I think at some point it would be good to let her know who we are, but I trust Dan to know when it's best to reveal it.

There are lots of people who are 'pro-gun', yet for one reason or another choose not to own or carry themselves, and I have no problem with that at all.

I think the bigger point is that yet again we have shown that we are not a bunch of paranoid freaks. We are normal everyday folks who truly care about the way our society is headed; and, will help those in need when we become aware of the need. If it turns out that part of that help includes information on the purchase and safe use of a firearm, so be it. If it doesn't, we still filled a need and that won't soon be forgotten.
