I wrote the check out and gave it to my boss today. The great thing is that our company matched all donations, so ultimately we raised over $1,600 for this family (on top of whatever amount other co-workers donated * 2)

Thank you again to all the people who donated and the people who would have if not for the short time frame.

Here's the update: Today my boss presented Lauren with the gifts we purchased and the donations we raised around the office (including the ones from you guys) I'll just quote the email from Lauren:

I also talked to Lauren and it is very obvious she is a tough girl. She may be bruised physically but I get the sense that she's dealing with this as well as one could hope. I asked about how her son was taking everything and while he's asking a lot of questions and scared that the evil guy might come back, he's doing well.

Once again, thank you all so much for the generosity you have have shown to help this family through what has to be one of the worst possible situations I could imagine.

At a later date in time, if I feel it appropriate, I will consider bringing up with her where some of the money came from and talk to her a bit about self defense. This however will be completely based on the vibe I get.

I don't know how I missed this thread. I'm sorry I came so late. My thoughts are with the victim and her family. I'm glad to see their Christmas has been saved.

Sucks that this happened and it sucks i missed this thread however i will put out there there i would gladly donate in the future if she does decide to protect herself. On top of the half that was already offered i would be willing to match any donation made. This is such a terrible thing to happen especially in light of the holidays. My deepest regards to this lady and i hope that her christmas is as untainted as possible by this tragic event. I pray there are no lasting effects from this traumatic event.
