Why would you think that? The OP has started 6 threads since he joined in July. 4 of them are questions looking for information. Hardly troll like. None of them look like a troll to me. I think pex, you should do a little investigating before accusing.

Maybe the (FD) indicates that this poster is in some form involved with the local fire department. Maybe he has access to those "tactical" channels. Maybe that would explain his acquaintance with 911 operators and police officers...

Are you having a bad day pexy? You have been unusually combative today.....

Something tells me you're an asshole.

I've spent alot of time around firefighters, and every one of them with a scanner that I knew had police channels. Half my damn town listens to the police calls to know what's going on.

Pex, I appreciate the fact that you honestly state your beliefs and pick up on details that may go in-noticed. But come on man, get a grip on reality.

Maybe in your part of the start they dispatch PD over a tactical channel, but in Allegheny County, at least SW Allegheny County, dispatch takes place over a common channel and if the incident turns out to be something worthy of a tactical channel then they would in fact go that route.

As someone stated FD is short for Fire Dept, but either way with a little investigation on the Internet, most frequencies are readily available to anyone.

I agree with the other posters that maybe you need to do a little investigation prior to accusing someone of being a troll. I am far from that. I found this site to be very informative and it is accusations that that that will discourage people from coming here to seek legitimate information.

Do police also have a strategic channel? Or just a non-tactical version...

I am getting so sick of the word "tactical." OK, spam over and out.

This is exactly what should happen, but you know everyone will blame the OCer for the incident.

Gee, I just can't get anything past you guys.

That's certainly not something that we'd call OCing. It's a ribbing to the public, antis, and law enforcement for overblowing situations where a gun is OCed but is not 'involved'.

I would have figured something as heinous as OCing(!) would have quickly made its way to tactical channel (yeah, I know not everyone has them yet.)

Maybe I didn't make the explanation absurd enough, or you think everything else I say is approximately as absurd, so it was hard to tell this was tongue-in-cheek.

I am quite interested in whether police are moving completely over to encrypted channels and odd frequencies (trunking blah blah blah) so they cannot be scanned anymore. I think they sometimes do call them tactical, and it's sort of true, since the equipment isn't as readily available and configured as a standard scanner we all know, love, and have intercepted police communique on for some time.

I guess they aren't done being watched just yet!

You know now I feel silly. You see, my pex post translator 3000, spit out the exact same post, but I thought it was broken, so I ignored it...opps, my bad

Not to hijack the thread BUT...

In Allegheny County, I know of no agencies that use any type of encrypted comms anymore. Harrison Twp PD used to have a "Secure" mode that they could use (Used DES to encrypt the voice channel) but since they've moved to the new 400 Mhz county system, they've stopped using it.

Most every PD in Allegheny County uses one of the various 400 MHz systems, which are all well documented.

Besides, any channel that the PD uses, MUST be licensed for them by the FCC, and therefore would show up in the FCC database, which is accessible via the web.

the idea that police have "secret" and "unmonitorable" channels was, until very recently, a fallacy.

Though with the introduction of fully encrypted digital systems such as ProVoice, OpenSky, V-SELP, iDEN or Encrypted APCO-25, it is becoming a reality - and a hot issue. However there aren't any agecies around here using any of that. PASP is slated to move to an 800 MHz OpenSky system, but they still don't have it rolled out on this side of the state.

Trunking Systems in general, however, (even digital ones) are still monitorable, with the right scanner. I own several Trunk Tracking scanners... and soon I'll own a Digital capable scanner (or two)

If you want more on this stuff, PM me. I've been a scanner and radio enthusiast for 20 years. I'm sure I can answer any questions you might have.
