FYI -- Fire Institute is holding two Utah CCW courses in the next few months, both on Saturdays:

The reason we were successful in achieving reciprocity with WV had nothing to do with training or a lack thereof. It was purely political so don't think for a minute that obtaining reciprocity with other states that have training standards will be a foregone conclusion.

A veteran with a valid DD-214 meets Florida's training requirements and the turn around time for a non-resident Florida permit is quicker.

Utah gives you more states, combined with the PA LTCF you get 34 where Florida combined with the PA gives you 32, they both give you DE & OH.

You're correct in Florida is easier, if you already have some kind of training, like the PA Hunter Trapper safety course. HOWEVER in the long run Florida is more expensive.

Utah new permit $65
Utah renewal $10

Florida new permit $110
Florida renewal $100

Both are good for five years.

I took the Utah class, mostly common sense type stuff and Utah laws, not very hard at all, after you shoot a few rounds to show you can hit the paper. The class I took was $50, fingerprints and photo another $20., include the Utah fee for a total of $135. In 5 years it renews at ten dollars.

Don't forget, if you don't already have one of the approved types of training for the Florida permit you then add the class and other fees to the total making Utah a much better choice all around.

By the way, Utah gives you the same states Florida gives you, plus two.

Oh, and from the time I mailed all the required stuff to Utah until the day I had the UT permit in my hands only 52 days had gone by, a shorter period of time then my PA LTCF took in Delaware County.

Promises were made and broken.

Documents were going to be released that would have exposed the broken promises.

That's all I'm at liberty to disclose.

I'll be taking the class to get my Utah permit next month.

I have a DE CCDW and a PA LTCF.

Hard part is when they ask to see your 'papers' and trying to remember which one cover where.

I'll just hand them all over.

Ohio is not that bad... I totally disagree with their "legal" gun-free-zone-signs, but at least they have reciprocity. NY, NJ, MD, {insert other less-than-free-states-here} will never have reciprocity without federal government intervention, which I would disagree with anyways, unless it were done in a constitutional manor (not that I wouldn't enjoy it though ).

I just don't get why an LtCF is not like a driver's license other than it is to permit you to do something protected by the constitution. My MD driver's license was good for me to drive in PA while I was a student and my PA driver's license is good for me to drive in MD, DE, and NJ. I know driving in not a right, but why does the government granting me a privlage carry over, but when the government grants me permission to exercise a constitutional right that does not carry over to other states. Is there a thread discussing LtCF and a movement to allow for national recognition? Could the requirements be standardized so that all states would recognize the license?
