I had the chance to stop down at Ready Aim Fire to try out their IDPA shoot. I shot like hell, but had a great time. The guys down there were really cool. Very shooter friendly and I look forward to going back and embarassing myself less and less each month.

If you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend it.

DO you have to be a member if the IDPA to participate? Both me and the wife wnat to start IDPA. Also, can a 3" pistol still be used in ESP?

You don't have to be a member of IDPA to shoot the match, though the match fee is $2.00 more if you are not an IDPA member or an RAF member.

As for gun size, there is no minimum size, only a maximum size for guns (must fit in IDPA box). I think there is a minimum caliber (.38 special / 9mm??), but if you really wanted to shoot a .380 or a .32 at this match, we would work it out.

More information at the idpa section of the web site:

2 observations I saw last night in relation to your post. We had one competitor use a Glock 26. I'd imagine that barrel is less than 3". We also had a husband and wife team come out. They were great. They had a good time and even hung around to help paste targets and also break down the match and clean up.
