Lightbulb IDPA at Southfork Rifle Range

Talked to a guy today that says he don't have the time to run a course, but if I wanted to, or if I knew anyone that wanted to I should let him know.

Southfork Rifle Range is just outside of Portage, PA. I know nothing about IDPA other than I plan on attending some this year. But I would be willing to help out anyone that would want to try and organize this a this range. The range is only about a 2 minute drive from my house.

Don't know if there would be any interest in this kind of a match. But you would think that it would go over OK.

I shot one IDPA match in Hollidaysburg last summer. I was not aware there were any available here in Cambria County.

I'm in Johnstown. Please let me know if this develops further. Thanks!

I went to that match over in Holidaysburg too. I had a blast. With gas going up the way it is. That is a long way to drive. Soooo, I approached the guy that helps run this place (Southfork Rifle Range). He said that pistols just seem to be dying out. Not much response for the pistol league either.

I think that the IDPA would do a bit better. It isn't just standingh there poking holes. But adds a bit of excitement and realism to your shooting. Nothing like that around here. I don't know what we would have to do to set it up. But I would be willing to help, and help alot , anyone that is willing to try and run it.

Anyone else out there that would attend this kind of a shoot in this area? If we get a lot of interest. We may be able to find someone to get us started.

I also know of one in Schlocte (spelling???) out by Indiana, PA. Don't know if that would be closer to us on this side of the mountain or not. Anyone ever been to that event and have any info on it. I just put a XD 9mm promo package on layaway and itching to get out and use all of it.

I have shot IDPA at the Indiana range. Decent match, very low (10 shooters or less) turnout for the matches though.

They run first Saturday of every month and they advertise a start time of 9am but it is closer to 10am until they actually start.

I am glad you guys had fun at the Hollidaysburg match last year, we tried to have fun and challenging stages all year long. The new season starts in April, and I hope you can make it again this year!

Thanks!
Corey

That match is at the Indiana Bow & Gun Club in Shelocta. It's a decent little match. The guy who runs it Paul tries to put on a good match, just a bit tough on him because it's basically a one-man operation.

If something gets started in IDPA at Southfork please post it here and give good directions to the club. I for one would be willing to give it a try if it doesn't conflict with any other matches I try to attend.

One way to drum up interest in a match would be to come to Indiana's and Hollidaysburg matches and pass around a flyer with match date.

Just giving you some heads up on what is going on with the IDPA at Southfork. I have found someone that is willing to help me. Nineseven from Johnstown. We are both new at this. But I bet we are quick learners. As long as there is an interest, I'm sure we will work to get something set up.

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy at the range. I told him that we would be interested in trying this. I called him but still haven't heard back from him.

I will make sure to get out info plenty early for all. Hope to get out some flyers too.

Keep your figures crossed and come on out and support us once we get it up and running.

Make sure you tell the guys at Sporting Goods Discounters in Richland. They'll help get the word out, and some of them have shot IDPA in the past. I'd bet they'll hand out and/or post flyers too.
