Default Best way to develop ICORE skills

There's an ICORE match towards the end of September in the Allentown area, and I though I'd compete. Being pretty much a gun newb, I am wondering how to gain the skills that I would need. Also, how would I learn the whole ICORE routine, before I get there?

Thx...

Tobor,

The most important thing after shooting is your reload. Practice with dummy rounds when you can’t make it out to the range. Dry firing is just fine for revolvers. The double action pull makes dry fire practice very good. ICORE uses NRA D-1 “tombstone” type targets. Take a look at them the sight picture is a little different than the IPSC or IPDA targets. Come out and join us for a great match. The match fees are low $10 Fun, $30 plaques and prize table or $65 Pro payback and prize table.

I would also recommend some dummy rounds and practicing your reloads.

There will be moving and shooting, so being aware of your muzzle (where it is pointed) at all times is important.

There will also be some strong hand/ weak hand shooting so practicing a little of that when at the range would help.

I look forward to the match every year. If you pay sportsman class, there is a prize table that includes a S&W revolver. I think there has to be a min of 30 shooters. A couple years back there were enough shooters for 2 revolvers. The best part is it's a random drawing, so those of us who will never win a gun by finishing first still get a chance.

See you there, I'll be the guy who wins the 625 this year

Thanks for your imput. Quick question. Would this holster be legal? The ICORE rules say a covered trigger guard. This one is partially covered.

That isn't going to make it legally. Too bad, because it looks like a real nice holster. Was it trimmed back like that or is that how it was made?

I was told by someone else that about half of the people there will have that very same hoster. He said that as long as you can't get your finger in there to pull the trigger, it's legal.

It's a picture of a stock Safari land 002. It might not be legal for IDPA as I understand the rules. But seems to be fine for ICORE.

I'm sure you will be able to use it, and no one will say anything. I went back and read the rules, and it it is like you said "covered trigger guard". I would say a completely covered trigger guard is the best and "most legal" If you are safe with the gun handling, no one is going to give you a problem.

This is the safariland web page, and it looks pretty close to yours. I might be the angle from where the pic was taken that makes it look different.

Oh well, gotta go practice those reloads

Hi tobor,
I've used 3 different Safariland 002 holsters, each with 2 different 686's over the years. First was a borrowed holster made of genuine leather, so it was pretty old. The other 2 are current production Kydex models bought 3 years ago. All were cut like pstew's picture, with the trigger guard barely showing in the rear. The angle on the front exposes less cylinder and is a straight angled cut, not curved like the one in your picture. The top edge comes up higher, to the edge of the grip. The molding of my holster is also different than your picture, but that looks factory to accommodate a bull barrel.

All that said, I think the holster in your picture meets the intent, if not the letter of the rule and you'll have no problem whatsoever at Ontelaunee.

After the post about this possible being ICORE illegal I sent an email to Jeff Nicholson ICORE Rules Director for clarification.

"Walt, I think the holster is competing both tasks for ICORE and USPSA. The intent is to prevent a finger into the trigger and allow that trigger to be activated while in the holster. I consider this holster legal for ICORE.

I must apologize for my late response.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Jeff Nicholson
Rules Director, I.C.O.R.E."

IT'S LEGAL.

Walt
