I see that Holidaysburg has IDPA matches. Has anyone out there been to one of these. Was wondering how big a turn out, and how well it is run.

They get about 25-30 shooters most matches. They run very nice matches. Before shooting they have a safety meeting. Very nice people at the matches. Nice range as well. They hold on the shotgun range so it's neat to be able to look out at the mountain beyond instead of being in a bay.

I like it so well I drive a 100 miles to attend.

Talking Re: IDPA newbie?

You'll find that most IDPA shooters are of a highly friendly sort - some of the best folks you'd ever want to shoot with.

Ted, Melissa and crew are some of the finest I've met so far - at the PA States last year and the "Frozen Penguin", where 100 of your finest "shooting friends" get together in the Poconos and freeze their collective behinds off whilst shooting targets and just having a heckva good time...

When you go (notice I didn't say IF), there's three things to remember:

1) Listen to the safety briefing well.
2) Keep the muzzle downrange at all times, finger out of the trigger if you're not on target, and don't do anything that endangers yourself or your fellow shooters.
3) HAVE FUN! :d

When I started a little over a year ago, the guys I shoot with gave me the safety briefing, and said just jump on in, let's see what ya brought tonite. In the course of the next couple of practice sessions, one or two of them would take me aside after a course of fire and give me a few pointers.

I'd never have thought of a couple of things they told me, but they're right, and I'm a better and safer shooter for it. The FOG's (flippin' old guys - have been doing it for years) are well worth listening to.

Oh, yea - have fun!

Thank you for your kind words.

Easton does a new shooters training day. It is a six hour 400 round class that gives you a glimpse of the basics of IDPA training. IT is essentially a "holster" class to help people work out of the holster and it covers such items as.

drawing the firearm
group shooting
steel plate shooting
Emergency and tactical reloads
shooting while moving forward, rearward, right, left
shooting drills
multiple targets.
dry fire drills

As with any 1 day class you will not master any of these subjects, but it will give you a working knowledge of these subjects so you can learn what to practice and how to practice it.

The class size is 6 people and the cost is $10.00

More information can be found at http://www.eastontacticalops.com Scoll down to "training"

Thank you,

Ted

Corey Murphy is a great guy (i believe he's one of the guys that runs them). I've trained with him several times.

Thank you,

Ted

I had the pleasure of taking Ted’s IDPA New Shooters Day Class yesterday.

Ted and his lovely lady Melisa are fantastic people and put forward their substantial experience, insight, coaching and suggestions into well thought out introductory lessons. As Ted states many times throughout the day, ‘As with any 1 day class you will not master any of these subjects, but it will give you a working knowledge of these subjects so you can learn what to practice and how to practice it’.

Ted lays the foundation in an easy to learn and remember manner approach. He covers Safety Rules, Range Commands, Loading and Unloading, Movement, Malfunctions, Engagement, Reloading, and a multitude of Live Fire Drills. We covered Scoring, Penalties, Equipment, and Tactics. All of the exercises are adaptable to real world situations and a good foundation for further training. We went through about 400 rounds in 6 hours and had a lot of fun.

I look forward to seeing Ted and Melisa at IDPA events in the future.
