Hi, folks -
Our shooting bretheren in New Jersey are holding their first ever IDPA State Championship in Oak Bridge, NJ on Saturday, April 21st, 2007. There's just shy of 100 shooters signed up, and they're capping it at 150. As with all things shooting, the more, the more fun we'll have! I'm not sure if it's an IDPA 'sanctioned' match yet (don't see it on the official IDPA Major Match pages on the website), but I'm heading out to support the effort. Go to http://www.idpanj.com/nj_state_match.htm for an application and link to the OBCATS website for club information. They also have links to "how to legally bring a firearm in and out of NJ" posted for those that are worried about heading into unfriendly territory (state wise!). C'mon - it's gonna be a blast! |

While I salute the efforts of the NJ IDPA in particular and the NJ shooting community as a whole in PSRNJ(People's Socialist Republic of New Jersey), for the hostile environment they must endure, I do not travel in that state with my firearms.
In the years while I was an active diver(scuba), myself and fellow divers had four interactions with NJSP officers. In each instance we were completely and totally compliant, non-confrontational and unaggressive. In three of these events, the NJSP representative was abrasive(and that's putting it mildly) and in two of those three, my fellow divers expressed the thoughts that the NJSP had appeared provocative in demeanor. BTW, in two of those occurrences, one of the fellow divers was a local LEO from PA. While the events with the NJSP weren't very pleasant, I can say that the NJ local LEO's that I've spoken with were about on par with what I've experienced with PA local LEO's. Is there(or was there) something that is/was being put forward by the NJSP in relation to OoS(Out of State) vehicle/traffic control currently or in the past? It just seemed a bit over-the-top and counter-productive to good public relations and professional countenance. BTW, while it may not seem as such, this is in no way meant as a bashing of LEO in general or NJSP in particular, but what was actually experienced. Sorry if this has upset anyone and my apology if such has occurred. IAR, I hope the NJ IDPA State match is a huge success for Mathew, David O. and the rest of the crew that is attempting to make this a go. Good luck fellow shooters! |

I would be scare of these guys/gals. Personally, I wouldn't want to travel through that state unless I have to. Their uniforms kinda remind me of my former communist country. The "gestapo" hat they wear and all. Come on, what happen to smokey the bear hat and cowboy uniforms, this is America, no? heheheh

The NJSP were out in force today on the GSP. Cops everywhere pulling people over. My manager, from CT, was with me and he remarked that the SP uniforms looked Nazi-esqe. I just chucked in agreement. Jack boots, etc...

For those that blew off the match due to the State of Disgrace, er, New Joisey's laws, you did miss a great match.
Great stages - two side by side drop turners that activated after pushing a window open, lots of steel mixed in, and in general just a blast. Although, I will admit - when crossing the Delaware on the NJ Pike extension to the PA Turnpike, I now know the feeling of a fleeing felon that sees the toll / border booths in Texas or California's borders - FREEDOM, DEAD AHEAD! ![]() Great job, OBCATS crew - hope to see you next year! |

Well, I blew off the match because I was shooting the SC state championship...
And I had a blast at that great match... (mainly because I signed up before the NJ match had fully developed) And the only hostile territory I had to drive through is a 20 minute stretch through maryland...
