Default Shoot house fun video... Critiques welcome!

Just got a chance to run through a 360 live fire shoot house today...1st time.
The video is a little grainy, and you don't see my hits on target (each BG got at least 2 good solid COM hits, some got more, some got shot in the face too).

I'd never seen the layout of the building before, nor had any idea of how many targets or where they were located (as you'll be able to see ).

What'd I do well? What'd I suck at?

If you have something constructive to add, please say WHY you feel something should be done/ not done.

I'm far from an expert on this stuff....and value feedback from those who've spent some time training/ performing these skills.

Thanks in advance!

I'm sure TonyF will give you some better pointers as this is his cup of tea...but the biggest thing I noticed was you not keeping your gun close to your body. Putting it way out front when checking corners makes you open for gun grabbing. Th BG will see your gun before you see him!

I was trained to change out with a fresh magazine after you've fired some shots and there is a "break in the action". I probably would have reloaded before engaging the targets in the area where the RO told you you were getting shot up.

I like that he yells "boom" when you stick your head out and don't see a target.

Your shoot house looks a lot like ours, except ours is only 180*

I kinda did a mix of that....I know Clint Smith teaches this method, but I'm not sure if I'm sold on it or not. His idea was if your going to present a target by sticking anything out, make sure you can shoot from there and get good hits....none the less I'd be interested in hearing all the merits to both schools of thought, and who else teaches keeping the gun in really tight.

Good call! I was trained on that too...and totally forgot to do it.

Good point, thanks!

I think Lycanthrope would have ran that course in 14.34...

you're gun should always point where your eyes are looking. moving into a room quickly is better than easing into it after peeking. and the idea of keeping your gun closer or staying further away from the corners when going around them is also a good idea. looks like fun though and as said previously, i'd love to see lycan run it.......

Let me first state for the record that I'm no expert.

I agree with djturnz. I would have done a mag change after engaging the second target.

The only other thing I saw, maybe, was it seemed like you silhouetted yourself inside the door when you first entered the house.

Our old range officer used to get on us constantly for standing in the doorway. He used to shout, "Quit standing in the line of fire!!!" That's probably why I noticed it. We were taught if the immediate area is clear, get out of the doorway and next to the wall.

I also liked the feedback from the range officer for when the bad guy was shooting at you. We may have to start doing that at our action shoots.

Thanks for posting your video. I learn something new every time I clear the house at my range and having video to check out is another great way to learn.

I think you'll find a lot of people who disagree with not peeking, and exposing your gun and head for a longer period of time scanning...especially when encountering 180's.

If you guys don't mind....if you could share where it is that you learned the techniques you're advocating....I'll know where to look for more info on your advice.

For example, my knowledge of this stuff comes from Clint Smith's DVD on Tactics, Insights Training material (2nd hand knowledge) and some training I've done with a local SWAT/ firearms trainer.

you peek, they know where you are. you move quickly and you have the surprise element. it's a toss up. i guarantee if i see someone peek around a corner or if i see a gun come around a corner before a person, i'll either unload a mag into the wall they're behind or just train my sights right on that part of the door. it's common sense. if your gonna peek, use a mirror or a camera........ peeking is a dead giveaway. i welcome any explanations to the contrary that make sense.........
