Thank you all for your replies. You got way ahead of me while I was reading the link Corey sent!

I will be at the next shoot, but will not promise to participate. I would like to see one first.

Corey? I appreciate your offer of using my G31 with 9mm conversion. While I confess I am in the mood to purchase another pistol, I have not decided what to buy as yet.

My dad & I try to get to HSC once a week with our pistols (during the summer). If you gentlemen ever see an old man (me, 52) with his father (dad, 72) shooting a lot and not hitting anything please say hello.

We never make if further than the pistol range on the right with the steel silhouettes.

If you come. Please bring your gear. You will be sorry 5 minutes after the shooting starts that you just decided to stand around and watch.

This is great bunch of guys. Most of us don't take it very serious (And those that do, we laugh at them. Hear that Dan). Some of us are just there for grins and giggles. You won't have a hard time picking our group out. We all laugh at each other all the time. That is what makes it great. No one is laughing at you, they are laughing with you. Heck last time I shot the star at the USPSA shoot, I had to reload twice before I hit anything (That is almost 30 rounds that I fired before hitting finishing the stage). I was laughing out loud at myself. We still joke around about that one.

I shoot a subcompact 9mm XD in a full concealment holster cause that is what I carry all the time. I'm not out to set records. I'm out to shoot and have a good time, and hopefully improve my chances of coming out alive if the time ever comes that I really do need to use a firearm to defend myself.

But until then. I'll keep laughing at myself and everyone else as we all have a really good time trying to figure out what the heck we did wrong that time. Bring your gear and be ready to shoot. It is way to much fun to stand around and watch.

They shoot USPSA on the first Sat of the month and IDPA on the third Sat. Both are run by really good guys who will work with you to get you started. Both are a lot of fun. I go to both of them as often as possible. Look for a GREEN PAFOA hat. I try to wear it every time I go. I'll be the guy dumping around 30 rounds into the star....

I have a full size XD in 9mm and a M&P in 9mm that I may be able to hook you up with. Let me know if you would like to borrow something.

So your worried about your age (Heck, I'm 48)? Heck we have guys there older than you that are competing. Bring your gear and join the fun.

Mtbkski,

Thank you for such a wonderful invitation! I appreciate your kind words, and you would fit in just fine anytime dad & I go to the pistol range. We quit using paper targets years ago. Too much stress.

Now we just shoot at the steel targets and laugh a lot. The entire reason we shoot is to have fun, and laughing is a large part of the fun!

I may bring some gear. I'll be the short fat guy who can not hit anything. Yep, that'll be me.

Allen

P.S. I do not wear hats. So just look for someone looking very confused and lost. That too will be me.

Thanks again for bringing it down to just having fun. That is something I understand!

With a description like that, How the heck will I pick you out from everyone else. You just discribed most of us there. Hope to see you there. You're sure to have fun.

Ok Gentlemen, I got off work at 5:00. Went to dinner, came home & have been researching IDPA and USPSA for almost 3 hours now (I am considering rehab).

Out of curiosity do a lot of the people who shoot in IDPA also shoot in USPSA at HSC?

A couple years ago a co-worker & I went to HSC to watch some PPC shoots. Everyone was VERY friendly & asked us to join in. Even offered the use of their equipment.

On the other hand after seeing their targets there was no way we were going to shoot. I do not want to be sued because someone had a heart attack while rolling around on the ground laughing!

Yep, you will see a lot of the same faces at both IDPA and USPSA. We have been running IDPA for about 6 years and this is the first year for USPSA.

We get a good mix of skill level at our matches. We get people that take the sports seriously, we get shooters who want to practice their tactics, and we get people that just want to hang out with their buddies and have a good time. And of course everyone in between.

In all honesty no one cares how you preform. We all started somewhere and are constantly reminded we still have a long way to go.

Some of us just competed in the IDPA PA State match this past weekend. 12 stages of pure fun.

For more fun yet some of us are going to compete in the Area 8 USPSA match this weekend.

East Huntingdon Sportman's Club

It is near New Stanton, PA.

They will have the entire range of shooters from the professional shooter sponsored by the big gun companies to regular shooters just looking to have a good time.

12 stages of pure fun doesn't even begin to define what a great time the State Match was. ....EVEN WITH THE RAIN...

Special Thanks to all of those who helped with the Match!!!!

Hope to see you at the next match.

Good Luck this weekend Corey.
