Don't sweat the Star, just shoot it top to bottom and it is not that difficult.

A few questions (hope someone is still reading this thread!)...

I belong to HSC but have never been to an IDPA event. I went there a couple years ago and watched a couple PPC shoots (I think that is what they were called).

In any case what kind of turnout are you getting? How many people are attending?

When is the next shoot? I went to HSC's website Friday evening to see what was going on this weekend but the calendar is not very informative.

Of the people who attend the IDPA shoots what is the ratio of 9mm vs. .45, and what is the ratio of 1911 style pistols vs. Glocks, XD's, etc.?

Just curious. I want to attend the next shoot but will do so as a spectator!

Thanks!

There were about 27 people at the last match according to the match results for May, though it was raining for the first half of the match so I'm sure that deterred some shooters away.

The next IDPA match is June 21st. The IDPA matches are held the third Sunday of the month in most cases.

A lot of the guys in the matches are shooting Glocks or M&Ps, both predominately in 9mm, but there are a couple of guys shooting 1911 pattern guns and even a revolver here and there.

I want to come down and WATCH for a while before putting myself in the position of having 25 ~ 40 people laughing at me.

Will probably use a Glock with a Fobus paddle holster. Is that still acceptable?

Thanks Again Sir!

Don't worry not everyone is the greatest shot All that really matters is that you are safe. As one guy termed it, 'we don't want anyone going home leaking.'

You're gun and holster choice should be fine, you don't really need anything fancy. As long as you have three magazines total (one in the gun and two spare) you'll be in good shape and if you don't have mag holders, don't worry, a carpenters belt or your pocket works well if you're just getting started.

As for ammo, you shouldn't need more than 100rds, but it's good insurance to bring about 150rd or so in case you have to reshoot a stage.

Thank you for the information. I have a G31 with a 9mm conversion kit, but just read that it would not be "legal" to use in IDPA.

If I am going to purchase yet another Glock it would be a G26 so I could use it for carry. Does anyone shoot the smaller Glocks, or would that be ridiculous given that it is a competition?

On the other hand I do not shoot very well anyway & would mostly be attending for the laughs and fellowship.

I know a lot of your questions have already been answered but let throw this out at you.

Don't just come to watch next month's match bring your gear and shoot it.

We try to make each shooter feel welcome and a part of the match.

We all started somewhere, and as Dave said previously we have shooters of all skill levels at our matches.

If you can safely draw a gun from the holster and promise to follow all the safety rules you can shoot IDPA. All the rules of the game can be learned during a match.

If you want to get a real good idea of what a new shooter needs to know, check out this link.

Thanks!

Don't quote me on this, but in your situation I would shoot Corey Murphy (the match director) an email and explain your gun situation. At the club level matches, the match director might be willing to bend the rules slightly, so you might be told to go ahead and shoot or you might not be. It never hurts to ask.....

There are a couple guys that use small guns in the matches on occasion. Board member Mtbkski, sometimes brings out his compact? XD and uses it. Once I get my Kahr k9 back together and get a holster for it, I might try using it in a match or two.

We have one shooter that is die hard about shooting what he carries and he carries the G26.

Its all about what you want to get out of the game. Can you shoot a G26 and be competitive? Sure.

Is is the best gun for the game? Probably not.

He means fellowship and not that you will be laughed at during our matches. . .

Your G31 with a 9mm conversion kit would be fine for our local matches. I would rather someone shoot what they have available than not shoot because their new gun isn't here yet.
