I must say that I am getting anxious. I just hope my new gun gets here in time so I can get out to the range and practice.

After the IDPA New shooter clinic the H-burg site says there is a classifier at 1pm.

What can be expected from that? Is a classifier similar to a regular match?

The Classifier is a standard course that is always the same. You shoot it so you can see how you compare to other shooters abilities, and find out what "class" you need to be in so you are competeing against those that are on the same level as you. Hence, Classifier. It will involve, mutiple targets, moving while shooting, reloading. Actually, it is a bit harder than most of the shoots. You have to shoot a lot more, longer range targets, then you normally have to do.

It would give you a taste of what to expect if you wanted to try it. If nothing else, it would give you a way to see how much better you have gotten, since they do another one part way thru the year, and you can see if your score improved.

I have been getting a few e-mail asking about how much ammo and gear list for IDPA.

Ammo is hard to estimate. You will need exactly 90 rounds to complete the classifier and probably around 30 rounds for the new shooter class. I have been telling everyone to bring 150 just to be sure.

In terms of gear needed to shoot this sport here is a basic list of what you will need for IDPA.

Eye protection
Ear protection
Handgun
Strong side holster
Magazines or speed loaders
Pouches for either magazines or speed loaders
Quality Ammo

I hope this helps. If anyone has any other questions please let me know.

Thanks!
Corey

Here is a great document that was created by Ted Murphy 2007 IDPA National Match Director.

While this document was produced for the new shooter it has a lot of great information for the seasoned competitor.

Enjoy!!

Me too. The match was loads of fun....well except for that damn Texas star with five silhouettes on it.

Even got 10th place in Production class to boot!

Can't wait for IDPA in two weeks.

I had a blast. It was totally different from IDPA. Which was neat. Dan ran a heck of a good shoot for his first ever USPSA sanctioned shoot. Good job buddy.

Looking forward to trying it again. And yeah, that damn Texas Star kicked my butt. I took over a minute to complete that course while the fastest time was 18 seconds. I had a good time though.

See you all at the IDPA shoot in two weeks. I have the green PAFOA hat on. Stop and introduce yourself. Steve is usually shooting with me.

OK that is two comments on the Texas Star, so I guess we'll have to drag it out for next month if everyone likes to talk about it so much.

Bring that darn thing out next month. I can't do much worse than I did this week on it.

I need the practice.
