I must say that I'm rather anxious to try this whole IDPA/USPSA thing out as well. I think I one upped you though, I just bought 2k of 9mm to practice and use in the matches.

Now I just have to join USPSA, IDPA, and renew out at Hollidaysburg.

I have one word for all of you buying ammo. . .

RELOADING

This is what we do during the winter, replenish our stock of ammo without breaking the bank.

How much can you reload 100rds for? If I had the equipment I'd think about it.

I have two words. Winchester White Box. OK, that's really three. But everyone I know will tell you that reloading doesn't save you the big bucks it use too. And WWB at Wal-Mart. Is just about the same price as reloading without the work.

I use to reload and I got out of it. Just isn't the big $$ savings that it use to be. If you working on super accurate loads, maybe. But for IDPA. WWB rules in my book. Just my 2 cents.

Most prices have just went up or are going up. For 9mm I would say around $10/100 rounds. I suspect you could probably build even cheaper depending on how you buy. (ie... quanity of bullets, style, brand, etc) I have recently been shooting a .45 acp and it cost:

$13.00 230 Grain Rainier RN / 100 Rounds
$2.25 per card of CCI Primers / 100
and about $.01 worth of powder per shell

so you can see how this would save $$$$

Winchester White Box at Walmart cost roughly $30.00/100 and tit is relativley cheap ammo.

Not only the price, but if you are into any kind of long gun or accuracy shooting, You can't even compare a store bought shell to a handload.

For USPSA cost is only one of the factors, with current prices I can reload 2500 rounds of 180gn 40 S&W for about $350. Other factors is tayloring your load for your firearm to meet the power factor for the division you shoot in. Also you can adjust the length of the round to make it more reliable. For example a longer round at around 1.185-1.12 works better in a 1911 or 2011. Glocks and other production class guns you need to keep the case length shorter.

Yes I did enjoy them.

You mentioned that you are going to be at the beginner clinic, correct?

Are you going to be at both the East Huntington one as well as the one at Hollidaysburg?

I reload just because I enjoy it. I also save a few bucks! How many rounds do you go through during a shoot? If things work out for me and I'm able to attend the shoot I'll need to put together some 45 ammo!
