What would you say is the minimum load needed to shoot Pins (bowling pins)?

I was wondering if my Ruger GP100 357 could handle Pin Shooting competition.

Probably yes, as long as you're up to shooting center of mass on the pin. Remember you have to clear them off the table, not just knock them over! I think I'd be inclined to try 180 grain bullets at around 1000 fps.

Check with Moyer"s Bullets, Penn Bullets and Roger's Better Bullets for availability and prices. All of them have websites so a simple google search will find them for you.

Depends on how far away they are set. I shot some pin matches with the pins set about 7 yds away with the following: 38 spec (Ruger GP100, 6" bbl), 148 gr LHBWC over 3 grs or RedDot or Solo 1000 with a Federal small pistol primer. This load pushed about 700-750 fps and if hit correctly would clear the pin off the platform. Had no trouble knocking them over. This was a speed match so you didn't want a load that gave you a lot of recoil, you needed to be able to get on target quickly. In fact, you are pulling the trigger as you transition from one pin to the next and try to time the shot to go off just as you get to the next target.
