Wasz,
I think they do that at Logan's Ferry Sportsmen's club. |

Yeah I looked it up and saw that, but I'm really hoping to find someone who does it.

Halloween is just around the corner... if I see any cowboys, I'll ask them where they get their stuff for ya'. (I doubt I'll get cowboys... mostly just kids with no costume and a pillow case or whores. Lots of whores... not sure if they're dressing up as whores or if they always look that way... what were we talking about again?) |

Well, I'm definitely a SASS/CAS shooter, so guess I qualify to answer questions. We are out of the local shooting season for CAS right now. We'll start shooting again in April. Local shoots are held at Plum, Pa (Logan's Ferry Regulators http://www.affox.com/lfr/ ), Donegal, PA (River Junction Shootist Society http://www.nauticom.net/www/rjss/ ), McDonald, Pa (Dry Gulch Rangers http://home.comcast.net/%7Epepc.holic/schedule.html ), Indiana, Pa (Stewart's Regulators http://www.yourinter.net/winsheimer/ ), and Hollidaysburg, Pa (Hollidaysburg Sportsmens Club http://www.hollidaysburgsportsmenscl.../cowboy01.html ).
To shoot CAS, you'll need two Single Action Revolvers, a Lever Action Rifle (Pistol Caliber), A Shotgun (Side By Side, Model 97 Pump, or a Model '87 Lever Action), Ammunition (Lead Bullets Only, no Jacketed Bullets), Holsters for your Pistols (Leather, no Nylon Gear allowed), a Cowboy Hat (men), Boots (no Tennis Shoes allowed), and of course hearing and eye protection. I'll answer any additional questions that you all can think of. |

From a posting I did on this subject last year:
I participate in Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS), and it truly is a great shooting sport. We are goverened by our parent organization, the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), and the organization has been around since the late 1980's. http://sassnet.com/index.php We shoot firearms similar to those used to tame the actual West during the 1800's, and of course the Silver Screen in the 20th Century. Our pistols, of course, are Single Action Revolver's (Colt, USFA, Ruger, Taurus, Uberti, etc.) and can be originals or reproductions. For Long guns, we use Lever Action Rifles (in pistol caliber's), such as the Winchester 1860, 1866, 1873, 1892, '94, the Marlin 1894, Henry Big Boy, Spencer, etc.. Pump action rifles, such as the Colt Lightning (or replica's) are also acceptable. For Shotguns, you have you choice of Double Barrel's (Hammered or Hammerless), the Winchester 1887 Lever Action, or the Winchester 1897 (or replica's of these shotguns). Our matches usually consist of 5 to 6 stages, with 10 Pistol Rounds, 10 rifle Rounds, and 4+ Shotgun Rounds. Of course, we do shoot against a timer (and you would be amazed at how fast some folks can shoot these stages), and our target's are of the steel variety (both fixed and knockdown). We wear Western Style Holsters and Gunbelts, and of course proper Cowboy/Cowgirl Attire. If you've never been to one of these matches, I extend an open invitation for you to attend a match in your local area, you'll have a great time, and meet some great people in the process (our shooting season starts in April for most clubs). And, heres's links to some great videos: http://youtube.com/watch?v=3DfA4I621cA&feature=user http://youtube.com/watch?v=2IoSGppKHSI |

I participated in SASS events when I lived in AZ for several years. It is alot of fun. The attire being a big part of the whole process. Before you invest in any firearms for it though I'd attend a few shoots. There are several different classes and not all are done at each club or range. There is Traditional, Blackpowder, Gunfighter and more. While most stages that call for a rifle require them to shoot pistol calibers there are some long range shoots where Sharps and such are used in rifle loads.
I haven't found any regular shoots in my neck of PA that I'm willing to travel to regularly yet. If I do I'd consider getting into it all again. I have a custom tuned set of Ruger Vaqueros in .44spl/mag, a Marlin 1894 Limited Cowboy in .44spl/mag as well, and a EEA side by side coach gun in 12ga. I ordered my gun leather from http://www.kirkpatrickleather.com/, but there are many fine makers out there. Actually depending on the local group many times you find vendors at the shoots or just people who help support their love of SASS by either doing some leather work, costumes or even gunsmithing and selling reloads. |

Closest shoot to you is at Titusville (Purgatory). They shoot the 3rd weekend of the month (Sat and Sun). Used to shoot there when I lived in Clarion, kind of a haul for me now, as I live closer to Pittsburgh.
