Default IDPA Shooting

I'd like to start shooting IDPA. I have never done it before and I need some information. What kind of gun do you need? holster? etc. How are the courses set up? I live near hollidaysburg I think they shoot IDPA there.I'd like to find out when they shoot there.Any information will be helpfull. Thanks

IDPA is relatively easy to get started in, since it is based on guns and gear that most people use for regular concealed carry purposes. So if you have a handgun capable of loading at least six rounds, of caliber 9mm Luger or larger, a strong side holster and 3 magazines (capacity varies depending on caliber and class but generally except .45 ACP 10 round maximum) or speed loaders.

There are some niceties about holsters, magazine and speedloader carriers and firearms that you should read the rulebook for. You can do that online at www.idpa.com or you can go to
http://nepaidpascores.net where you'll find the IDPA rulebook in pdf format and Ted Murphy's essay Welcome to IDPA Shooting.

The course of fire varies widely and wildly from match to match. The only time you'll find a "standard" course of fire is for the qualifier. BTW, you do not have to shoot the qualifier before competing.

Have fun!

Steve,

Hollidaysburg matches are the 3rd Saturday of each month, April thru October.

We usually start around 9am or so. 200 rounds is probably a good number or rounds for each match.

Here is the website fro the club:

If you have any other questions or comments let me know.

+1 for the Holidaysburg IDPA matches. Dan Burwell runs them and you will have way to much fun. He goes above and beyond to make them fast, fun, and interesting. Trouble is, the end of the year is coming up. I think that the one on the 20th of Oct. is the last one. Not sure though.
