USPSA: Modification Legalities

Greetings,

So, I looked into competition shooting and decided to try to hit the final USPSA/SCCPSA shooting competition of the season on October 20th. I'm looking to compete in the 'production class' but after reading the rules, I'm trying to determine if an extended magazine release or magwell would be legal for this division.

Anyone knowledgeable about this?

No magwells, grip plugs, filing of the magwell, no grip tape, home stippling.......

Stock extended releases are OK.....ala Glock. One's that have never come from the factory on your model of gun are not.

Meh... as far as I know Springfield doesn't make one for the XD's.

So....if you really want one shoot Limited-10.


Or....just shift your grip and trip the slide release with your weak hand after inserting a mag like you're supposed to! (read: It's faster)

Lycanthrope is right about the magwell for production. It is verbooten. The extended mag release will depend on your gun.

What are you planning to shoot?

Also your holster and caliber of the pistol will factor in on limited 10 vs production

Thanks for the answers, I think I got everything worked out. I'm shooting and XD-9 on which there's been a ruling that extended magazine releases are allowed. It was an odd situation because Springfield doesn't manufacture them, but Springfield does offer them by way of a third party vendor.

I'll be at the Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers Association this Saturday for their USPSA/IPSC tournament. If anyone else is going, drop me a PM so we can hook up at the event.

Come 2008, some of those mods become legal in Production. Grip Plugs are now okay, as long as they are not the Seattle style that hangs down and out. Filling/beveling of the magwell area is now kosher as is grip tape and stippling, with specifically delineated areas. Oddly enough, grip tape that used to be allowed under the trigger gurad is now illegal as that area is not considered part of the grip. Go figure.
