Default Worning to those whos are reguler at the Scotia Range...

We all know about no more then 3 rds in rifle, no more then 6 rds in hundgun rule there(while almost noone ever follows it at the axu range).

So i was there today popping few rounds off of my P22, while waiting for 100 yrds range to open up.
So after 100yrds range oepened up, I packed up my P22, threw it in the car, grabbed my long gun, and headded to 100yrds aux range.

After I shot about 10rds, I walked up and changed the target. as i was walking up, I noticed forest ranger(or Encon?) pulled up and officer was looking at my gun. Thinking nothing of it, i walked up, and he then asked comeover.

Then he told me that there were report that I was shooting more then 6rds at the time, shooting metal frame intensionally, with no paper target, and shooting more then 3rds at the time from my long guns. then asked me if I had hundgun on me. I told him that its in the car, and he asked me to see it.

Then he proceeded to tell me that it is a violation of uniformed firearm act to store gun in case with empty magazine. Even tho action was locked. then its also violation to have ammo next to it.
I told him that I have CCW, then he proceeded to tell me that "Well, that would imply if you have this gun in holster" I was dumbfounded..

He then wanted to see the target I was shooting - which I had to dig it out of trashcan to show it to him.

By this time I was rather irritated. Then I heard over his radio "Hey ****, did you get him?" , then he replyed "Ya i got him"
He then told me that the guy that was at 100yrd range was off duty ranger, and as soon as he left, he redio'ed him to get me. And handed me a written warning.

Now guys, I know noone follows those 6rds/3rds rules. because its bit dumb. But you'll never know who is shooting next to ya.

Needless to say, after all this, my mood was nolonger. I packed up and went home

I thought you weren't allowed to shoot more than 3 rounds in rapid succession, not that you weren't allowed to actually have more than 3 rounds in your rifle. That's just plain stupid.

From what he is telling me, I guess only time you can store gun and magazin in same box is when your have just bought the gun, and transporting it back from there.

Is this true?

Um, if it was against the law, I think the gun manufacturers would start packaging their new firearms differently. If there weren't cartridges in the same case then I don't see why he was messing with you (besides attempting to be a douche bag).

+1
When I'm going to the range there's loaded mags in the gun because that's how I took them out of the safe, because that's how I keep them in the safe.
The one on my hip is +1 (in the chaimber).

This is an excellent example of why it's a good idea to keep a printed copy of the Uniform Firearms Act in your vehicles. Then you can present it to an officer, and have him point out the specific language you are violating (or NOT).

I rarely use the public ranges because of these rules, but abide by them when I do. Keep in mind that these ranges were primarily intended for sportsman use, and the rules have less impact on them (Not them I'm trying to justify them). Have you considered volunteering to help with the upkeep of these areas that you may regularly use (or make those in charge aware of your actions if you're already doing do on your own)?

From this year's Hunting & Trapping Digest - State Game Land Shooting Range Regulations:

Quote:
Prohibited Acts: At rifle and handgun ranges located on land under Game Commission ownership, except when authorized:

6) Possess, load or discharge a firearm that contains more than three rounds of single projectile ammunition, except at a PGC facility specifically designated as a handgun range an individual is permitted to load and discharge a handgun containing a maximum of six rounds of single projectile ammunition at any one time.

does this mean that this round limit rule does not apply when you are shooting in the section of scotia that is covered by a painted wood shelter and has a sign that says "handguns only"?
