Default Upgrade to plastic card?

I was excited to hear that Bucks is now issuing plastic permit cards. My joke of a paper permit is just about destroyed from being carried in my wallet for the past 4 years.

As per http://www.buckscounty.org/governmen...onsPermit.aspx

"An upgrade to the new plastic card from the present paper permit is $21.00."

They don't give any further info. I will call tomorrow to get more info, but just curious if anyone else has done this? What is the procedure? Anyone know what they look like?

Thanks!

Chris

If it's anything like Delco, bring 2 color passport photos of yourself, the extra money and your old paper LTCF. Generally they will upgrade you to a plastic one on the spot. You said your current one was 4 years old? Why not just wait until you renew to get a plastic one. Save some money.

The plastic permit is similar to a drivers license. You don't need to bring any pictures for it, and they print it out on the spot. I would reccomment it for durability.

My first few were of the non-durable paper variety. My last one was a plastic one, they took the picture on the spot.

When we went to get my wife's, I told here there was no picture. We get there and she had to get it taken, which took an extra 10 minutes in the bathroom of fixing her hair, etc.

montgomery county takes your picture on the spot and prints you out a plastic card. Just like the DMV.

I got mine in Feb 07. I walked in to get some signatures for my Class3 goodies and they asked me if I had my pistol permit. I said no, I don't have one. The Deputy explained the process in 1 hr I had filled out the form, had a backround check done and got my photo taken. I asked how long I would have to wait and he laughed - "once the ID comes out laminated." A nice bunch of people to deal with... Bucks has been great in every way. The Sherriff has been nothing but top notch on any of my requests.

I got mine in October at the satellite office in Levittown. Costs $46. took about 1 week. When i asked about the paper one they said..."They really don't want you to get that one anymore."

Of course not...cuz the extra $21 goes into their pocket. State says the permit is to cost $19+fees. I dont believe Bucks can even legally offer the plastic card.

I don't believe that is true. I recall getting info that stated the plastic picture ID is now required in PA. I will dig up the info and post it.

I just renewed my LTCF last week here in Fayette Co. and no photo was taken.

They said they can't afford the equipment yet and are waiting for some type of grant in a few years that will be available to buy it. So they still issue the basic 3"x5" flimsy paper license w/o photo. They do offer to reduce and laminate it to make it easier to carry. A photo can be placed on this smaller version if desired (just to have an extra photo ID) but is not required. I did not even have to supply ANY photo for their files, since they already had mine from 5 years ago.

BTW, renewal was very nice & easy. Was in and out in 15 min with renewed LTCF. Cost: $25.00 + $4.00 for reduced & laminated copy.
