Default We need to elect a Sheriff this year

We need to elect a Sheriff this year, and Jozwiak is not running for re-election. No surprise after the rightful beating he's taken over using permit-holders info for his last election, as well as the leak in the county CCW database.

All I've seen so far is that Cheif Deputy Eric Weaknecht is running, as well Michael Garipoli, the former Deputy whom Jozwiak fired. References cited:

http://www.readingeagle.com/Article.aspx?id=17938

The Reading Eagle also has an article about Weaknecht announcing his candidacy, but the archives are not freely accessible.

Does anyone know anything about these guys, their party affiliations, etc? This could potentially be a big deal for Berks residents who care about the RKBA, as the Sheriff is the gatekeeper to LTC permits, as well as being the first "go-to" for NFA signoffs. All I've found so far is Weaknecht's Bio on the Berks County Sheriff's site:

http://www.co.berks.pa.us/sheriff/cw...=1388&q=456935

Any help would be appreciated. We need to find out who's running, and what their stance is on firearms ownership, licensing, sign-offs etc. I know it's a bit early, but my hope is to have a fair amount of information on the candidates come election time.

Wonder if he is the same Weaknecht (or family) that used to own the gun shop in Hamburg (now closed). If so, it's likely he will be pro-gun.

No idea, I'll see if I can find anything out though.

It is the same family of Weaknecht's that owned the gun shop in Hamburg. I know Eric pretty well and he is very pro gun. I think he would be an asset to the firearm community if he would be elected.

Since I've actually met you, that is definitely good enough for me. Where have you been hiding lately? Haven't seen you on the boards.

Do you see him as MORE willing, LESS willing, or AS willing to sign off on NFA/Class 3/Title II forms?

Sorry if I'm grilling you, I just want to make sure that my vote goes towards someone who believes in the people's rights to own ANY weapon within the law. LTC permits are not a problem as a Sheriff is obligated to issue those under current PA law to those who qualify, but a Sheriff is not obligated to sign off on NFA forms.

Bill,

LOL . Yeah , i've been floating around but haven't had much time to post with as busy as we are right now.

As far as signing off on ATF Class 3 forms. I just spoke to Eric and he has no problem signing them.

As soon as he gets a website up and going I will post a link on here. Help spread the word to Support Eric Weaknecht so we can keep Berks County pro gun and as far from the philly mentality as possible.

To all:

I had an opportunity to meet and speak with Eric this past week-end. Naturally, I focused on 2nd amendment issues as its the topic most important to members of this board and others. Based on my conversation with him, I can recommend him as being very pro gun. Specifically, I did ask him about his position on Forn 4 signoffs for NFA items. He did indicate that he would continue the current practice of the office which is to sign off on Form 4's. He is very much aware that the current sheriff does signoff for NFA items and that the former sheriff BEFORE Jozwiak did not. I met him at a local gun-club if that matters.

Again, based on my conversation with him, he does appear to be very much Pro-gun, pro-NFA and would likely continue to support lawful gun-owners in Berks County.

Hey guys,

What's the deal with the primary on the 15th? Does one have to be a member of a political party to vote? Does it work like a typical primary? I hope not, 'cause if it does I can't vote, as I'm registered, but not with either party.
