300 Win Mag reload

Hey all,
I'm heading out on a Elk hunting trip and I've been working on some good reloads for my 300 Win Mag. Just wondering if any of yall had any powder suggestions that have worked well for you. thanks

I have had, and know lots of people that have had lots of good reloads come from RL22, IMR4350 and H4350. I've heard some other guys say that with bullets over 180 grains, that RL25 works pretty well also; I have no experience with it. Anyway, just something to look at and consider. I see that you're pretty young, so please don't be careless. Look up the info on these powders and start at safe minimum loads and work up to what fits for your rifle. If you're not used to recognizing pressure signs, ask the experienced reloader (father, friend, or people here). Be safe and have fun.

I have had great results with this combination out of my Remington 700 Sendero:
Winchester brass
CCI 200 primers (large rifle, not magnum)
Hodgdon 4831- 73 grains
180gr Nosler Partition

By the way PBarcher8, you probably want to stay away from the Large Rifle primers in that .300 winmag. It's easier to get away with in the short magnums, but the .300 winmag has a tall enough powder column that you probably need the magnum primer. Also, when you get in the cold temperatures, even if the large rifle primer was working for you earlier; they will fail you in the cold temperatures. I have never been elk hunting, but I'm guessing there will be some cold temperatures involved and maybe a fair amount of walking or hiking, so you probably want your bullets to go BOOM!. Just a suggestion about large rifle primers with magnum charges in cold weather

Tomcat, you have a valid point, but I have not had this particular problem either hunting or punchin' paper during winter. I like to shoot on those calm February days even if the temp. reads only in the high teens. What can I say, my friends and I get cabin fever.
