I know of several 1911 style guns with over 100,000 rounds on them. I have one with 30,000 rounds and another one with about 17,000. The 1911 can certainly run with a Glock and some people do shoot them better.
Now...that being said, it is relatively easy to drop in a 2.5lb trigger in a 1911, but it can be a real pain to install a nice beavertail grip safety....or have the slide milled for good sights.
Get a 1911 with good sights and a beavertail..
